I would like to ask if anyone knows the frequency of MOT tests these days. I know it was every three years but have now heard it is annually. Two people I know, together with myself, thought we had another year's MOT left when we recently went to tax our vehicles but we were told we were out of date and each was fined 50 lira plus we had to pay for another MOT (100 lira) and a new emissions test (25 lira), despite having had an emissions test only four months earlier.

Have the rules changed yet again without any publicity or is it me with my head in the sand???? I try my hardest to keep 'legal' over here but it sometimes feels like I'm battling with the unknown.

This is cyprus the rules change by the day but you will get lots of opinions on here, at least one will be close but the trick is to spot which one it is.

Come on, guys. I can't believe all of you have had to tax your car with a 12 month MOT. What about those of you who came here three years ago?

Yenibob, this is b***** ridiuculous. What sort of a website is this?? Someone MUST know the answer to a very basic question. How often do we have to MOT our vehicles, for goodness sake???? Is that too difficult for this website to comment upon? If so, what is it saying about North Cyprus?

OK, let's forget I asked. I'll go down to the MOT station and ask them for the day's update!!!!!!

Over and out.

apc2010, I think you're right. I'm disappointed. I really thought that this forum would be helpful. I'm quite surprised that no-one has answered with their experiences. Oh well, that's life!!!!

I've had 168 hits an no one seems to have a car that needs taxing with an MOT. What is wrong out there? Come on, speak to me. Why is no-one saying anything? Am I living on another planet? Loads are using this forum right now - late as it is. Please tell me what your experience is.

Glorybe

I had the same problem. Went to tax the car and was told MOT was out of date. The MOT cert was dated July 2007 therefore I thought it was due in July 2010.

The truth is that when I bought the car from the dealer in 2007 he went to MOT it. It should have been MOT'd in 2005/2008/2011 etc etc.

Why they didn't fine him (car dealer) I am not sure. However I had to MOT it July 2010 (also fined) and was told I have to do it again in July 2011 and from there on every 3 years.

Hope this makes sense.

Bob

Just taxed car, cut the bull...t you guys. was told and it is true as of the 18th, emmisions and MOT run for THREE years. Interesting though that NEW cars have to be MOT'd and tested?

Only paid tax, 85TL bargin.

Why does everyone run this place down?

How188. My tax was 560 lira for 6 months and I drive an Opel Meriva. It is a 1599cc but I'm told it's the weight that makes my tax so high. However, glad to hear that the MOT remains at 3 years. Don't know what went wrong with mine this year but I'll be on the ball next year, believe me!!

Don't worry, How188, I still love this place and I'm not running it down.....
