I noticed the other day that my ankle was a bit swollen (no pain at all) if I prod around it with my finger the flesh stays indented for quite a while.

Any ideas what it is?

Sounds like you are retaining water and may need a diuretic but you will have to consult a Dr for a proper diagnosis. Very unusual for it to be only one ankle!

For god's sake why don't you just go to the doctor? I don't know how people can be expected to diagnose a medical problem on a forum.

Try soaking it in a bowl of gravy, instant or not, the choice is yours, or better still do as message 5 suggests.

Take your tights off before you fart and if that does stop the swelling, go to a doctor.

going down a bit now, have it in both ankles now though as Hans rightly suggested. Not bothered about that now, more concerned about my knee that has been hurt from our (not so little) Efes pulling me down the steps. Can't walk. Have to slide everywhere on my bum.

RE msg 16, LaptaMike: two swollen ankles, a Dutch doctor told me once, may be a sign of a threatening heart failure. No kidding. I suggest you check with Dr. Levent Soyer, Consultant Cardiologist - Kamiloğlu Hospital, Girne. Hospital: 03928153282, mobile: 05338878884. Or consult Dr. Erkut Asicioglu (Cardiologist, my heart surgeon), Lefkosa State Hospital. Clinic: 03922283540, State hospital: 03922236002, mobile: 05338765858.

Don't want to frighten you, but I wouldn't laugh about it, LaptaMike - I talk from experience.

thanks Hans and nurseawful. Juliamoons has offered to lend me some that she got off you aswell. Can't decide whether it would be impolite to say no thanks because it would be easier to get them off you thru tim.

I would guess it could be something straight forward i.e. excess water, floating tissue, insect bite etc etc.

What i cannot understand is why post it on a forum because even a GP would need to examine you and also is it of interest to anybody??????

No thought not

RE msg 22, LaptaMike: (...) the swelling is going down, had it before. Dunno what caused it. (...)

=> OK, no problem then! Don't go to a doctor - ask St Peter what the reasons could have been of your arrival at the gate. Hard to believe how you write about something that sounds very serious and don't go ask an expert for his/her opinion. I'm sorry I spent some time to give you serious information (msg 18). F your bl**dy knee - it's your ankles, fool.

Msg 23, continued: I don't want it on my conscience not to have done all I can to warn you: check this URL and decide for yourself without more advise: http://www.google.com/search?q=swollen+ankles&hl=en&num=10&lr=&ft=i&cr=&safe=images

I took the warnings of 'swollen ankles' too lightly like obviously you do and now only live thanks to a (German top-quality) pace-maker. Depending 100% on this 20.000 Sterling device (20,000 Sterling for Bill).

My husbands ankle swelling went down but returned a few weeks later. He died from heart failure and i was told his lungs were 3/4 full of fluid but he seemed very fit and well he was 53.
