Just passing on some news I've just heard from North Cove Properties:

Ambitious Plans to build a £140 million hotel and theme park complex in North Cyprus will attract up to 100,000 new visitors a year, it has been estimated.

Work on the Wonderland Project, a joint venture between investors in the USA, UK and Turkey - including Mercure Hotel owner Mustafa Gurbuz - is due to begin on November 15th.

The complex will feature three roller coasters, an 800 room luxury hotel and leasure complex, Casino, Children’s fun park and a Bowling centre.

Work is due to start in November 2010 and the theme park &attractions are due to be completed within 2 years, with the hotel be completed by 2013.

My 1st thought, this will be good for the country. My 2nd thought, will the right sort of people be attracted and how many screaming kids will be wandering about or stag and hen parties roaming the streets p****d at 3am in the morning!! I must be getting old, or getting used to the quiet life!

My first thought is ... will it ever be built in the first place?

hi all.

we have a apartment in guzulyurt, and we are pleased with the wonderland project if it goes ahead.

also think nc needs something like this for all ages to enjoy ,we also like the quiet side of life sometimes, but a bit of life would not go amiss.

we hope they havent moved guzulyurt last time we were there it was on the west coast.

regards gazza.

Just heard the plans have been changed slightly and Mehmet and his brother will be building two swings and a see-saw, though this may be delayed as he is having trouble finding some wood.

Yeah, but makes a change .

Bout time we shifted to theme parks, was getting tired of the weekly news about Marinas .At my reckoning we have 8 completed Marinas and 14 started and another 6 planned.

If you think they are going to spend 140 million to build a them park near Guzelyurt that someone hasnt done a proper feasability study. How many tourist a year go to Guzelyurt and how many people come to North Cyprus period.

Anyway if a Estate agent is selling apartments next to it then it definitely must be going ahead

Outside England 's Bristol Zoo there is a parking lot for 150 cars and 8 buses. For 25 years, its parking fees were managed by a very pleasant attendant. The fees were cars (£1.40), buses (about £7.00)...

Then, one day, after 25 solid years of never missing a day of work, he just didn't show up; so the zoo management called the city council and asked it to send them another parking agent.

The council did some research and replied that the parking lot was the zoo's own responsibility. The zoo advised the council that the attendant was a city employee. The city council responded that the lot attendant had never been on the city payroll.

Meanwhile, sitting in his villa somewhere on the coast of Spain or France or Italy is a man who'd apparently had a ticket machine installed completely on his own and then had simply begun to show up every day, commencing to collect and keep the parking fees, estimated at about £560 per day -- for 25 years.

Assuming 7 days a wee

Even heard one about a marina for hundreds of boats out to the east side a while ago - therefor the names, marina view etc.

What will the new areas by the theme parks be called 'Big Dipper Drive' / 'Water Splash Park'

Pippie - any links to a site re these projects?

100,000 visitors is far too few for a 140 million theme park to make its money back, assuming all those 100,000 people would come to Guzelyurt. Even assuming 200,000 or even 300,000 come, it would still probably lose money. I think this is another of the rash of developers using "reports" of ambitious plans to gain free publicity.
