residency/work permits

Hope someone can help



i'm now on my 2nd year of temporary residency, but have now been offered a good job with a work permit(which as i understand it would cancel my residency permit?, as you cant have both). Bearing in mind that you need 3 years concurrent temporary residence stamps before you can apply for citizenshio(there after No work permit needed), would the work permit count towards continuous residency ie. if i were to stop working, would my re-application for temp residency count as the 1st??

Thanks for the response, i now understand that a subsequent work permit would count towards continuos residency, but immigration did say that the rules change all the time and they wonder why so many carry on without a permit and take the risk.
