What happens now? - I haven't got a clue - anyone have any ideas? I mean, you go sailing in waters known to be rife with Somalian pirates and you get captured.

So, no, no ideas at all, unfortunately.

Ermmmm - "International Rescue"?

I agree the course that they sailed was extremely foolhardy and despite the publicity about piracy off the Somalian coast they still chose to sail to close inshore.

However they are British Citizens going about thier legitimate business that have been detained against their will, the British Government should be more proactive in securing thier release.

But for gods sake dont send in the Yanks!!

Hippo, I saw a programme on TV that on passing Aden they continued east, well past the recommended point before turning south, so were outside the area recommended to avoid. Is that not the case, or is the area too small. Is there a Notice to Mariners on the subject?

There is certainly a Notam on it with the coordinates well publicised. There is also a lot of advice on http://www.noonsite.com.

The problem is the area that these pirates operate in is expanding, from what i know they were inside or close to the 'exclusion zones'

I was thinking of spending 2 weeks in Helmand province next summer. Does anyone have any suggestions about such a trip? Will my travel insurance cover US army field hospitals?

According to the Sunday Telegraph they've just been released. I've heard nothing on the radio or TV news about this.

Just read it on internet - paid by private businesses and Somali gov.

Glad our gov/govs. stuck to their guns but glad also that they are released.

They were stupid, but paid a very hard price for it. Maybe now these pirates

can be arrested without endangering lives!?
