when i was over last week i asked our hire car company .

he says no hire car company will allow you to cross over to his knowledge as they fear they may not get car back if somebody left it at airport .

however he also says that you no longer need written permission and that since last month a agreement was reached between north and south customs ,and commerce departments and the hire car owners are powerless to stop this if sufficient insurance is purchased .

i dont think it one the north hire companys wish to promote ?

Check before you go that you can get a car tax waver at Famagusta, when we went last year, our neighbour was told to get the waiver from Metahan, they would not let him over. He dropped us off and we walked over border, my daughter picked us up the other side. Been over several times since, no problems, on return we have always been asked what we bought, think they are so quiet gives them something to do.

Hi Jenny. I am hoping to go from Ozankoy to Protaris and would be pleased if you could let me know how you resolved the issue yourself. Thanks

Far as people know no hire cars are allowed to go to the south and the people at the crossing should inforce it then people will know where they stand and i am sure if the hire company found out they will give you a good telling off.

Dont they make a note of your number plate if it is a hire car?

Hi just come back from TRNC. hired car at Larnaca and drove accross border at Nicosia. Couple of questions about insurance from a very busy and overworked border official and then away to the North.

Hope that direct flights to Ercan can be on agenda in current talks.

Would seem that this sort of move would be quite painles to both sides and represent a significant step foward.

My view is that the North is too far down the line of self sufficiency and economic independence to agree to total reunification.

EU could not possibly allow evictions, turmoil and threat of anarchy under current situation.

Compensation may be negotiated both ways. It is only money that flkes are interested in securing.

I was very pleased to witness several hundred Greek students visiting Bellepais.

Education, education education is the way foward to attain a harmonious and unified island.

Hire cars from North are allowed South but not all hire companys will authorise it, first check with hire company.

Why is there so much misinformation spouted?
