We have a favourite place in Nicosia by Ledra checkpoint where we always stop for local pastries - the one folded over with honey or halloumi in the middle - deliciou! The cafe is called HAMUR's. Can anyone tell me if they have found a cafe similar anywhere from Bogaz to Famagusta or in the town.? Just love those little pancakes and never seem to be offered them in the restaurants we have been too?

Hope someone out there with a sweet tooth knows somewhere!

Many thanks

The place referred to is Petek's. They have a small outlet on the road between Famagusta and Bogaz but the main shop/cafe is in Famagusta itself just down from the main square near the Othello tower.

I don't know if they do the pastry that you are after as I am slowly working through the menu but haven't tried it all yet!

Petek has the reputation of the best pastry shop on the island.

I do remember (or at least I think I do) that Elko2 mentioned a better and cheaper outlet in Famagusta. He is around so he may either confirm my memory or my complete memory failure.

Don't worry Harold, your memory is far better than mine. Its called LIVA, its on the main road. Travelling from the main roundabout in Famagusta with the huge cement block in the middle towards Nicosia, it is just after the first petrol station on the left and there is a good parking space in front.

Thanks for all the replies on the pastries. For those who asked HAMUR's is just by the Ledra Palace crossing in one of the beautiful stone colonial buildings. He is extremely well known and articles have been written about his home made pastries. DONT MISS IT!

Does LIVA's someone mentioned make those pastries with honey in the middle? Just trying to think what they are called! I have been to Petaks many times but never seen them on the menu!

Cypriots call it "Katmer" and it is really not honey but sugar (with butter or cream) in between - turns into honey like syrup when cooked. There is a hellim version, but honey can be poured on top (or traditionally, we dip it in a bowl of honey) when eating...
