Hi everyoneof

As my other half has to work to pay for this venture I am coming out to NC mid Sept for 5 weeks as a sort of 'advance party' to do some tidying up,painting etc to our newly aquired house in Baspinal. Can't imagine being without internet or tv for any length of time so desperatly need to know how to get fixed up with broadband & sat tv. I have a wireless enabled laptop. There is a sat dish on the roof of the house and there is a landline installed.

Can any of you advise whats the quickest, cheapest way to get connected up?

Many thanks in advance

Maggie

Hi Maggie&Bernie

landline is by far the cheapest option but the speeds are extremely slow. If you have a wireless router then you'll be better off using one of the other options available. We use Sunny Cyprus and only chose them because they were able to come out quickly for the installation. Speeds are very good for both up and down. I understand prices have gone up recently but we haven't had any notification of this so I cannot comment.

Hi Maggie & Bernie,

We brought a wireless router from the UK and was told it would not work. We were supplied one as part of the installation package by eXtend.

I personally would bring your own out because the only ones I've seen available are US Robotics which aren't a particularly good make. There is absolutely no reason why your own shouldn't work. It may need a bit of reconfiguring but that's easy to do.

It depends on the type of router you have (cable router or adsl router) and what provider you go with. I am with extend and we use a cable router.

I have a landline where I live and I have had it converted to ADSL. I have a wireless router, we use a laptop and my son connects to the internet with his PS3. Sunny Cyprus supplied the ADSL modem and the router was bought locally. We have 24hrs always connected service for about 20 pounds a month and this is fast enough for domestic needs.
