Does anyone know the maximum sum of sterling cash you can physically bring with you to TRNC when travelling out by plane?

From HMRC web site:

From 15 June 2007, if you are travelling to or from a country outside the European Union (EU), you will need to declare any sums of cash of 10,000 Euro or more (or the equivalent in another currency) to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

You do not need to declare cash if you are travelling to or from another EU country.

HMR&C classes TRNC as not being in the EU for some purposes, but maybe not all.

If you fly to Ercan with less the equivalent of €10000 per person you need not declare it at UK airport. Declare it if it is more.

If you fly into Larnaca you need not declare any amount at UK airport.

We arrived at larnca on sunday morning we could have gone through with any amount of money as no one asked any questions about money, also they did not bother to much with passport's.

Of course, since the ROC is in the EU they are not legally entitled to question you about any money you might be bringing in.

But of course, if you cross the border from the ROC to TRNC then you must declare any amounts over €10000 to the ROC customs.

However I assume they probably never stop you at the border and question you.

The limit is per person - the restriction is to do with money laundering. It does not matter what currencies but the limit is for the global sum you carry.

If you want to take more you should declare it to customs.

It is always a risk carrying large sums as your insurance will probably not cover you for the loss so why not transfer it to a bank (assuming you have one in North Cyprus)

Does not matter what the allowance is for none declaration customs can still stop and question anyone at anytime. Same as alchol and ciggies, it is only an allowance and not a right.

I would never dream of carrying a large some around, what if it got stolen you would def. not be insured.

Far easier to transfer on line or cable transfer. Surely better a small charge than loosing the lot.

You can take more but I would take a receipt to prove that it has not got a dodgy back ground, it must be declared.
