Another power cut!!!

Where can I buy odourless, smoke free paraffin for an indoor oil lamp? Is there a trade name for it??

I live in Lapta so somewhere adjacent would help.

Why would you put kerosene/paraffin in an oil lamp?

You can buy clear lamp oil at *'Homebase', in the South - not sure of the price. The GC's burn it in home shrines to a deceased loved one.

There are also *2 brands of Citronella oil - one is British made - cost: about €6 for a 1 litre plastic bottle.

Kerosene emits less odour when used under pressure in lamps and cooking stoves [e.g. 'Sievert'].

You could try 'Mr. Pound' in Girne......their stock range seems to have increased every time I go in - you might be lucky.

If it is bright light that you want, probably it's best to use the 'Gaz' type lamps [with a mantle] - try a sports/camping shop - I think there is one almost opposite HSBC in Girne.

Thanks very much.

Could you tell me where Mr Pound and 1001 are in Girne. I know where the Post Office is situated or the Colony if we could start there.

Mr Pound is on the main road entering Girne from the West. It is on the left about 200m before the roundabout with the new waterfall at the top end of Girne. To get to 1001 go down the main street in Girne, take a left opposite the one way road that leads down to the sea (Ataturk monument) and shop is about 80m up on right hand side.
