My 7 year old Beko fridge sound sick. Its running almost continualy and its has an irritating hum. I believe its the compresser that is failing. Sounds like it wont be worth repairing? as I know thats an expensive piece of kit. Anybody had theirs repaired, and what does it cost?. If I replace it, what might be the best make to buy, or are they all pretty much the same? Thanks to you all

Hi. Brought a uk fridge and a uk freezer over when I moved 4 years ago. Had them 15 years plus in UK - old bur reliable !! Recently noticed one or both seemed to be working most of the day/night. Work it out, if fridge @ 100 watts and freezer @ 125 watts are running for, say 18 hours a day, you are using around 60 tl electric per month, just for fridge/freezer. (Depends on your tariff, which electricity usage bands you fall into etc.). Anyway, I got sick of the constant 'hum' of one or the other, so donated them to locals who couldn't afford new ones, and bought a Bloomberg combined fridge/freezer, with a A++ rating. Result = new electric bill exactly 60tl less than last month. (Useage virtually identical.) That equals 720 tl per year, so at a purchase price of 900 tl, it will be saving me money in around 15 months. Oh, and it's saving the environment from day one of use. Don't bother paying good money to repair an existing unit - buy A++ replacements. Save money and environment.

Enchanted, definitely go for a fix first as often it can be something as simple and cheap as a leaking gas joint. Cannot recommend repairer but in TRNC in 2004 bought a top of the range for £450 and in 2009 paid over £700 for a bog standard one ! Pays to shop around and take advice. Buy from a source who you know will honour guarantees. At the risk of "teaching to suck eggs" note that some refrigerators (apart from double door jobbies) have doors that can be hung on left or right, others left only or right only. Can be very inconvenient if you choose, for example, a left handed only one then to find that your kitchen site and preference only suits a refrigerator with a right handed fitting. Best of luck with it !

The shop that used to be called Atanco, opposite the Grape Vine Restaurant in Girne, (main Colony Hotel road into Girne town centre) I think now Mobella Trading do fridge repairs. Chap in the shop speaks good English although the the repairman doesn't. Recently repaired our fridge and all working well now.

Sounds short of gas, get a new one aa rated it's not worth repairing nowadays, as they are that cheap. Go green and go for-natural refrigerants hydro carbon with low global warming potential.

Hi All, We just lowered our prices on refrigerators due to our Autumn campaigns! We sell Japan's no. 1 selling refrigerator brand HITACHI. I can guarantee that they make the best compressors worldwide! They are so goo that even other top brands like Sharp use their compressors and refrigeration technology. They have many new advancements such as NANO tech filters and minus zero cooling.. HITACHI is in their own class. We also sell LECLA which is made in the same factory as Arcelik, Beko, blomberg etc.. for lower prices. However, I strongly suggest owning a HITACHI to store your food as it is your health that is most important! We have lowered the prices unbelievably and our campaign will last around a month or so. You can see our full range in Lefkosa as our shop there is big enough for our whole range. We also have some examples in Girne opposite Lemar in Karakum. Shop is called TECHMAR!
