linda,

Normally when you make an appointment for any clinic / hospital you will not be asked for details other than name date of birth etc on the telephone. Things like past medical history, allergy's, problems are asked at the consultation with the Dr.

Hi i would just like to say that i had an opperation last year at Medikent and although i could not fault it, the staff and care everything was fantastic, i would get the price clarified and in writing before anything is done, i had my gall bladder removed and i was told it was going to be 4000 lira but when i came to be discharged they wanted another 2000 lira and would not release my passport till we gave them the extra 2000 lira. When we questioned the extra cost they said the 4000 lira was just the surgeon's fee. nothing we could do about it.

Again i could not fault the service and as it was an emergency and the op had to be done that week we had to pay it.

Good luck

Agree citychick, Just had byopsy done, not told of prices in advance, cost £600. £450 was on the bill for the consultant who did the byopsy took him about 8 minutes That would make his houly rate at over £3500.

Hi,I had a smear test there in April, then I had to have a biopsy. The staff speak english and are very caring and thoughtful, but I agree with citychick check the fees before you agree to anything, and they do want immediate payment or they hold onto your passport, but don't let that put you off, I will go back for another test when it is due.

Know of two people who were quoted a price in advance of a procedure, one for a Tomography and one for an Endoscopy, on both occasions the final price on both procedures had increased by just about 200TL! As you say if asking for a quote in advance, best to get it in writing first, gives more grounds to query. Naughty really, as the hospital, service and care is very good, but they will fast lose their reputation if they continue to overcharge.

With all procedures you are quoted a price! So endoscopy just for instance say it is x amount of tl they go in with the scope and find something they see not quite right that should be biopsied. What would you rather they do? Biopsy at the time and charge OR wait and say we have found a lump I think it should be biopsied and it will cost you x amount plus you have to pay again for the consultants time etc!

We were actually quoted 2 prices, one price was 400TL for endoscopy without Biopsy and the other quote was 600TL if they had to do biopsys, the final price was over 800TL (with biopsys). Can't quite see why there was a 200TL difference (33% increase)!

Carmella e-mail me the details and I will find out for you. I can only think that the difference was for the pathology report.

Chris,

I was not quoted any price for the biopsy at all. In fact on my initial visit with the consultant at the end of my men' health check I was told he thought I might have an infection so he gave me antibiotics. It was not until he gave me my biopsy results that he said it was not that I had an infection but the antibiotics were to stop me getting an infection from the biopsy. On this occasion not impressed with Medikent, I must also say though that 3 months ago they were very good on an operation on my knee.

Chris, we are going to talk to the Doctor about the price differences first and if we are still unsure as to why there is such a big hike then I will email you all the details. Is that okay?

Thankyou everyone for your input to my original question.

The first occasion it becomes necessary to seek medical assistance in N Cyprus is nerve wracking. Who to consult, where to go?

I firstly consulted with Dr Silem. (English & female)Green Clinic Girne.Very professional lady but kind and understanding

Dr Silem made the app for me at the Medekent Hosp for an exploritory proceedure.

The hospital,spotlessly clean and modern.Professional staff .

Dr Silem visits before and after the proceedure. She then diagnoses and prescribes after the result of proceedure( within an hour or so.)

For any future health issues I would not hesitate to consult Dr Silem. Also I would have no qualms about returning to the Medikent hospital for any treatment.

I went to Medikent with a broken leg. Initially I went to Girne hospital, well that was a right bloody palaver. After spending 3 days at Girne hospital and then finding out that they could not fit me in on the Wednesday for operation and could I come back the following Wednesday for an operation. I went to MediKent the following day, got a quote of between 5k and 6k for the operation and post treatment. Was xrayed and operated on by lunch time. Total Bill 5150tl.

I will be going for final appointment next week, which will be for final xray and hopefully will walk out of there on my own two feet.
