This has probably been asked before but I have searched under the popular topics & can't find anything.

I understand that it is better to bring your £ sterling & change in TRNC but what about T/Cs as they are more secure? Are they easily changed as the same or worse rate & do they incur charges etc.

Any advice gratefully received.

Hi Holly

They are secure but I would still bring sterling for a better rate. The rate for TC's is normally lower and you usually have to pay commission for changing them.

Cash and credit card are best option.

Always check first if commision is charged by retailer though.

If not wanting to carry too much cash use ATM card, check with bank what charges are applicable before leaving UK though.

Nationwide don't charge for using cash machines abroad.

Thanks all. It's as much as I thought so I think I'll stick to the readies. Did consider ATM card but I think I will keep as a back up. Knowing my luck Murphy's (aka **ds) law would kick into operation and swallow card at first use & then up the proverbial swannee without a paddle.

When changing check exchange rates in several booths, there can be as much as 10% difference .

Will do. Staying in Central Girne & happy to walk a few miles for a few extra YTL. 10% variation is quite a difference.

So do they just charge a % commission of the total exchanged or a fee on top as well?

Hi Holly,

I am in the same dilemma as coming to North Cyprus for 2 weeks and don’t want to bring 2 weeks worth of cash with me. I am going to bring TC but didn't realise you can get different rate for changing them as opposed to cash.

Orangekazzie, any idea how much commission I should expect to pay to change them?

Cheers guys!

Hi Wilts Girl

Welcome and I'm sure you are pleased to see all your posts appearing now. It's really and individual decision what to bring & what the commission & difference in rates is.
