Now that Russia has recognised South Ossetia and Abkhazia and after the earlier Kosovo precident the TRNC is no longer such a special case.

Given Putins remarks at the time of the Kosovo recognition raisiing the question of why the TRNBC was not recognised if Kosovo was to be perhaps Turkey and the TRNC should seek to do a deal for reciprocal recognition of these states.

At least is puts a few more cracks in the international consensus of the inviability of existing countries territorial integrity.

The principle was already streached by the worlds previous recognition of Kososvo lengthy non recognition of communist China followed by later recognition and non recognition of Taiwan and recognition of the Norths takeover of South Vietnam to quote a few.

If the principle was backdated to before the First World War most Eastern and Central european counties would be in either the Russian or Austro Hungarian empires and large parts of the middle East would still be under the Ottoman Empire including here (albeit under British administration)

Politics my dear, politics. There is no right or wrong in international politics but only interests. The other bit I like is "Might is Right" and it rymes so nicely. Don't worry about Cyprus and TRNC, we will get there eventually.

spot on elko2. It's all about interests and if you have the might, whatever form that takes one can circumvent obstacles (IL) to realise those interests.
