I just got back from the vet's, where someone had left a 3 or 4 week old brown Cyprus Terrier bitch - they had taken it from some boys who were using it as a substitute for a ball.

Amazingly, although she looks to be in a pretty sorry state, she appears to have survived with nothing worse than a few scrapes, and certainly has a good appetite...

Pertev the vet is at his wit's end, people just come and dump animals on him, and he hasn't the resources to feed them all.

Will anyone offer this poor little mite a home?

hi keith ,its just heartbreaking to hear these kind of stories , also its quite sad that people can abuse animals as and when they feel like it ,, but my heart goes out to the boys that felt they could do this to a living creature who could not defend itself . they don't stand a chance in life , they are in need of just as much help it's just so very sad , i'm not living in nc but i would be quite happy to adopt this little puppy from afar .

kind regards , simbas

where is the poor thing now. I am hand rearing a puppy myself at the moment that is about the same age. Got her when she was a couple of days old. May be able to help you out.

Dreadful, and as Simbas said you really have to feel sorry for these boys who did not think that they were doing any wrong. I do not live in NC so could not help. I just hope the little chap goes to someone who will give him lots of love, hes going to need it.

I do hope the little pup finds a good and loving home; wonder what happened to any other poor pups from the litter. How kind of pussycatuk to consider helping out, particularly after the experience at the hands of others her husband and she have recently experienced. I agree with Pipie, the kids would benefit from some sort of educational programme, perhaps a joint venture by local vets (nurses), KAR and any volunteers willing....wish I was living there, would certainly be willing to get involved with developing something like this.

Someone has left a 3 or 4 week old brown Cyprus Terrier bitch at the 'HosPETal' Vetinary clinic in Girne - they had taken her from some boys who were using her as a substitute for a ball.

Amazingly, although she looks to be in a pretty sorry state, she appears to have survived with nothing worse than a few scrapes, although at the moment the vet is treating an eye infection, and she certainly has a good appetite...

we were in the south last week and stopped for a burger at mcdonalds. while sitting outside 3 greek cypriot kids were kicking and chasing a couple of stray kittens. so i am afraid to say they don't educated their children any better . it amazes me that they all want a english based education for their kids but lack teaching them english values.

Fire Starter,

Who said "THEY" all want an englished based eductation? Maybe the English living here, but I can tell you most TC don't have a problem with "Their" education. As for Teaching English values, I think you will find the children here and there families values are a lot better then mosts parts of the UK. You only have to look at the low crime here.

What happened with this puppy could have happened anywhere in the world, yes it was awful but it is not the norm. Are you telling me that in the UK there are never any acts of animal abuse? If this is the case why the need for the spca?

Hi Kiwikid,

I agree with you that this is not a phenomenon peculiar to Northern Cyprus, and there is no point in attempting to categorise attitudes and behaviour by nationality.

As for educational and cultural preferences, I have no direct personal experience or data to guide me on making pronouncements on what they want, or what they are happy with...

We can all make guesses, but probably best to preface them with that time-worn proviso 'In my Humble Opinion' or IMHO for short.

So, here goes, - IMHO Kiwikid is right in saying that there is probably not much wrong with the way they bring their kids up, judging by the low crime rate.

Anyway, thank you for keeping this post near the top!

Does ANYONE want a Puppy?

I'll give you all an update when I've seen the Vet again today.

Regards,

Keith.

looking at this picture i think the pup that i have ended up with could be from the same litter. A friend of ours found it and said i know just the people who will look after it. Trying to talk my husband into having this one too...not giving up yet.

Ah! that second picture, it really pulls at the heart strings, the pupy is so tiny and vunerable. I live on the second floor here and would not consider having a dog unless I moved to a house with a garden and with surrounding countryside to take it for long walks.

All's well that ends well...

Jim, who found the puppy, mentioned that a new owner has been found, and I confirmed this with Pertev this morning.

Some of you might know him - Sertap from Neil Anthony's hairdressers in Girne (hope I got the spelling right!)

I hear that Cyprus Today did a piece on this puppy, but I haven't seen the paper yet.

Thank you to everyone involved.

Excellent news, so glad somebody has taken her in. Best outcome we could have hoped for and no doubt he will have a loving companion for many years.

Thanks for the update Keith, a happy ending is just what we need to brighten the day.
