It is a stickybacked for want of a better description sand paper but much harder wearing. Yachties have been using in for years on hatch covers, steps or any areas where you might slip. Some friends of bought some in a Yapi in Turkey you can get it many colours.

Really Rowlo, tape is tape is it, suggest you go to Lambousa market and have a look for yourself. It has been laid on the steps to the Barons theatre. Hi Hippo, after nearly breaking my ankles on wet steps, I managed to track down the manufacturer of the non slip product. It is not sandpaper or paper based but a resinous compound and silica which has a seriously strong backing glue for laying direct to surface. I've had some down on my patio steps for nearly two years, no problem. It is in tape form and any width although 25 and 50 MM widths are the most popular. Britcyp

britcyp, is this tape suitable for use on tiled steps going into a swimming pool? By that i mean will it stay stuck under the water and also would it not attract algea? We have very slippery steps in our pool and were thinking of using an acid solution to take the glaze off the tiles but if the tape works it would be easier to fit.

I have some samples of non-slip tape (Non abrasive) specially formulated for pool steps/showers etc. Unfortunately, this product can not be put down under water, a dry clean surface is required before the steps are covered with water. Britcyp.

OK thanks for the reply. But we can drop the level in the pool to fix the tape if it will stay in place when we refill the pool. What about the algea?

britcyp, I was given a data sheet for this tape at Lambousa and it states: "Subject: Resistance to Water (Months). Result: 10 Test Method PSTC-35." Does this not suggest that the tape will start to "unstick" on pool steps after 10 months?
