My cousin went there last year for couple of weeks in February and said that the weather was warm and pleasant. He's going back again so it must have been good !

I haven't but my mate keeps begging me to go halfs on a villa there before it gets really expensive. (Probably a good idea but I'd prefer to put my money into Egypt because I love it there)

It's building up as a tourist resort, some of the big UK hol companies now do hols there, maybe get one of their brochures and check what it's like in Jan

yes mess 1,we have been several times and we shall be there again in January next year. Excellent climate and whale watching, the place was very run down after the Portuguese left it but now it seems to improve every time we go there.

My wife and went to buy there in April 2008, found the main island (Sal), flat and boring, loads of building going on, windy all the time, the weather is good all year round. Not very friendly people, prices were quite high for everything as it all has to be imported, charged 3 different prices for 2 small bottles of Tuborg, the cheapest being approx £6.00, food boring and also not cheap. Beaches are very good and plentiful. There is very little or no greenery at all, very little rainfall at anytime. Thomsons have two all inclusve hotels on Sal, the Funana being one, would suggest tourists use this or its sister one, forget the name. Some friends of mine were in an apartment and were woken by a drugs gang banging on his looking for A.N. Other, he left the next morning and found another apartment as he has a young family.

Strangely reassuring to hear that it happens in other places too, though still not pleasant when it does

We were either going to buy in Cape Verde or TRNC and now we're glad we opted for the later.

Friends of ours came back 3 weeks ago and would echo everything Trevor (msg 6) said. They also agree that the people were not at all friendly and prices very expensive. Loads of building going on and they also said that they spoke to a couple of people who have paid money and so far got nothing. Shows it happens everywhere!

They say they would not go back again.

Cape Verde Islands in March weather was great. Some of the locals are not friendly but some are. The food at some restaurants was ok but at some it was great - nice fish the the fish carpaccio was brilliant. Yes Sal and Boa Vista are Desert islands.

On Sal there is the blue eye grotto and a natural swimming pool. The eye can only be seen at a certain time of the day - but was beautiful. There is also a volcanic crater where salt is / was produced and you can float in one of the lakes ala dead sea. Just hire a car for the day. Apart from that life revolves around the beach. The currency is linked to the Euro - hence why it is expensive. There are other islands (about 10 in all) others have tropical vegetation and you can island hop if you have the money and time. Plenty of websites to give you more detail. For me an holiday is what you want to make of it - would I go back - yes for sunshine in the winter months and would to do some island hopping.

I worked with Cape Verde islanders for about 6 years and found them very friendly if a little interbred and slow.
