Ok, so the UN have more or less accepted the permanent division of NC.

And, following Jack Straw's comment of 'as yet unrecognised' being a sign that politicians are commencing the back pedaling in readiness for 'the end being nigh' it may follow that NC will become recognised by the EU as a separate domain, after all, it is Cyprus, and Cyprus is already in the EU, it's just that the aquis is suspended in the area not under the control of the RoC gov, so the 'territory' is already on board.

Now, one great fear many must have is the introduction of the Euro.

How long will it take (the general consensus) for NC monetary policy to be in line with the EU regulations to adopt the Euro? given also that NC doesn't have any money per se, but it does get pocket money from Mum.

I am kind of guessing that most with concerns won't be around to see it?

probably true

Kososvo might be a guide. The population is about 8 times bigger than the TRNC, however, like Kosovo, the TRNC may get recognised by some EU states, and unlikely to be recognised by Russia.

Of course, allot will depend on the TRNC's relationship with Turkey should the offer to recognise NC be made. And their seems to be some big legal loopholes that would need to be negotiated. UN resolutions would have to be lifted etc.

ps

Although Jack Straw would make a decision to allow the TRNC to be recognised, didn't his boss Gordon Brown sign an agreement with Christofias, saying that should the talks breakdown Britain would not recognise the TRNC. I believe Christofias got the Russian PM to sign a similar document.

Is this true and if so how binding is it? Was the agreement undertaken with our sovereign bases in mind?

Who cares anymore. With Brits maybe liable to compensate the greedy GCs and Euro interest rates at about 2% what would be the point of staying here.....
