I am thinking of taking a short break in Izmir in December. Can anybody recommend a nice, reasonably priced hotel please or a good website for hotel bookings.

If you go you must take a trip to Effes, the ruined city with amphitheatre and library, and visit the house claimed to be Mary, mother of Jesus last resting place. We won a trip to Izmir, so sorry cannot recommend a hotel, the one we stayed in was first class and expensive.

I wasn't impressed with Izmir (German spoken as a second language), better to stay in Selcuk, near Ephesus (English widely spoken as a second language), plenty of very interesting things to do & see. Easy access from the airport and if you can wait until Thursday I'll find the Pensioyn I stayed in, about 30TL B&B per night, basic en-suite with wifi & TV. Email me for more information of what to do, see, transport etc. Google for information about Ephesus.

Thanks everyone. That's now 4 recommendations for the Park Hotel so I'm definitely going to give that a serious look.

Go and stay in kusadasi you will love it, just out of Selcuk and only a short dolmus ride to Effes and the house of the virgin Mary, what a sight you will not get over it, I still think about this ancient city, plus you have some of the best beach in Turkey, great night life, lot of cheap restaurants, and loads of reasonably priced Hotels and B/B or Pensions, we stayed at the Hotel Panorama run by Ali great host, and cheap it's up by the Grand Bazaar, Izmir is only 1 hr by bus from Kusadasi, I can't say I thought much of the place, remember it gets cold in December, go into this site http://forum.kusadasi.biz/forum35.html and have a look at the forum this will give you an idea of the place, Izmir is just another city but Kusadasi and all down that coast is just exceptional, and worth the visit.

forgot to mention Pamukkale about 1 1/2 hrs from Kusadasi, Pamukkale (pah-MOOK-kah-leh, "Cotton Fortress") has been a spa since the Romans built the spa city of Hierapolis around a sacred warm-water spring. The Sacred Pool is still there, littered with marble columns from the Roman Temple of Apollo. You can swim in it for a fee.
