The really great thing is.. if you get enough of them you don't get the pigeons nesting on your roofs... Look up Skopes Scopes or Scops Owl too. Their call is very distinctive. like the 'ping' of a submarine's echo-sounder.

A.J. we used to have loads of Bat's but only seen one all year, but I notice now the Bat's have gone the MOZZIE'S are way more prolific............Could it be the "reported" over use of insecticides last year that have "DONE FOR" the bat's?.............Perhaps yet another ecological disaster!!! Oh My.......

The Little Owl here is the same as that in the UK and indeed is diurnal. This has a fairly dull brown plumage and is the one that you often see on the ground especially at night. It's call is infrequent - a sort of screech gradually increasing in volume as it is repeated up to 5 or 6 times. The Skops Owl is strictly nocturnal and is approximately the same size as the Little Owl. However, it has a bluey grey speckled plumage and has a simple very rhythmic call - a high note followed by a low note - which it will repeat continuously for hours. Both are quite common in Cyprus - perhaps the Skops being less frequent than the Little.
