Pugwash, Master Mate, Tom the cabin boy, Pirates Barnabas and Willy, Cutthroat Jake. These were the original cast though others were added later. Master Bates and Seaman Staines were never characters in the show.

So were a few of these characters deliberately installed with double meanings or was it an innocent oversight? Who were the script writers and producers of this so called childrens programme?

the inuendo names are an urban myth that has circulated very well. Lots of people belive these names because they are told by reliable friends. but alas totally incorrect. there is a great sight out there that deals with urban myths you will be surprised. Also watch IQ a wealth of info

Some of the names of the brave seamen in previous postings are correct and some are wide of the mark. Just for starters, Master Bates was one of Pugwashs most loyal and trusted crew members, though Roger never served as cabin boy on the Black Pig. Anymore remarks about my social (or lack of) life will force me to withdraw from the Pugwash debate. Does anyone remember the gobbladictum plant in Space Patrol (a 1960s puppet series on childrens tv) Michael

CJtill: Now then - Space Patrol puppet series screened on a Sunday evening. No one I have ever discussed this with can remember this series - so much so I was beginning to think I had dreamt it. Used to love the music they played as the vehicles travelled in the tubes etc. Cheers
