Just heard the UEFA cup draw and Man City will be playing the second leg of their first round tie against Omonia on the 02/10/2008. Fantastic news as I will be in N/C at the time. I should've grown my finger nails back by then, after chewing them all off watching us rob the Danes last night. Omonia knocked out AEK Athens in the last round so I think we need another miracle. I'm sure it will be a fantastic occasion whoever wins though. My wife is Russian and I wonder if anybody could tell me if she will need a visa to cross the border to watch the match. She doesn't need one for N/C but when we've travelled to Europe in the past, she has needed a Schengen visa Thanks, Martin

Hi Spudlov, My wife tried to get a visa for the south when she was in London recently and was told in no uncertain terms she would never be granted a visa by the GC side as she had visited an illegal country and was living in stolen property (although they had no idea whereabouts in the TRNC she was living). So unless you can get a Schengen visa from another country which would allow her to visit the GC side I don't hold out much hope. According to the GC immigration people at the border she is allowed to cross as she is married to an EU citizen but when we tried to cross at Metehan they threatened to arrest her and deport her. I was also thinking of going to the match as Man City was the first 1st Division (as it was then) side I ever saw, they were playing Portsmouth, about 50 years ago. Also Mike Doyle was a close friend.

Thanks for the info Slimboyfat, but I've had the rug pulled from under me. The ties have been switched round because omonia share their ground with another team who are due to play at the ground the night before. Guess I'll have to watch it in a bar, presuming it will be shown on local telly. Mike Doyle, what a character, a member of the last all English side to win the title when he won it with City. Did he really hate United that much or was it a wind up ? Regards, Martin

A wind up! I knew several of the United players as well and they got on fine apart from being competitive. My ex wife was secretary of the local Leukemia Research and the City players (including Tony Book who was the manager then) gave wonderful support which is more than I can say for United.

I and others have commented about news items being discussed on this BB. So what relevance has this thread to TRNC? If you can say it is relevant then thread about Maddy etc have to remain.
