It looks like Northern Cyprus/Turkey,are really pushing for these talks to finally have an outcome.Word has it that there will be an announcement on the 20th of Novembere 2010.Greek Cyprus will still try an stall further, but i think that Northern Cyprus/Turkey may say, enough is enough.Just wondered what people on here thought,

Paul.

Newlad: Wouldn't it be nice if that was the case but some how I doubt it. I personally feel that the powers to be in both the North & South don't want to give up their little empires or dilute their own power base & therefor the average Joes wishes will always come below those of the leaders. In a perfect world a TRNC citizen would be free to fly to any country in the world from Ercan and would be able to trade with whom they choose and make their own way in the world. I look forward to that Day, I hope it comes soon.

'TRNC'lion

in a perfect world.. "[ a TC] would be free to fly to any country in the world from Ercan and would be able to trade with whom they choose and make their own way in the world"

..and a Cypriot would be free to choose to live and work anywhere in CY AND in their own house ..

That's why it ain't 'perfect'..... yet...

Lion,

Mess 2.I really do feel that Northern Cyprus/Turkey want to put this all to bed now, whereas Southern Cyprus would be happy for it to carry on indefiniteley. After all what have they (Southern Cyprus) to gain from re-unification,

Paul.

judging by the last two years' near-total stalemate I would be very doubtful that the talks,

as we still refer to them are primed to reach any particular conclusion

as result of this or that or the other meeting, november 18th notwithstanding

not that I will offer personal preference, advice to cypriots or definitions of progress

while the type of pushing the international community does on the "cyprob"

mostly consists of repetitious statements exaggerating the direness of the situation

it will be interesting to see however for just how much longer the un will continue its good offices,

I'd say more than six months is an extravagance

meanwhile the international body has some truly dreadful problems all clamouring for attention

eg dem. congo, darfur, iran nukes, pirates, palestine, east china sea, north korea, famines and wars:

...all infinitely more desperate than the "cyprob"

our poor deadlocked cyprus will have to wait in line for another bite at the un cherry

Newlad: Like you I believe the South (well, their leaders) have more to lose than they will gain and will seek to continue there stalling tatics, perhaps they will push the UN & EU too far one day.

God knows how many M's: You'll get no arguement from me about GC rights, their rulers let them down years ago and continue to do so in my opinion. Its time to move on for both sides.

Wot is the politicians going to do with themselves if the talks do not continue, unabated, throughout the next generations ?. They do not like working.

Msg7: Don't worry about them, they'll have more time to keep up with their scams and money making ventures.

dont expect anything but an impass to come out of this meeting , christofias has made sure of that by insisting no presure or time frames be put on the greek side . he really doesnt want to go, outside influence in the cyprus problem is a big no no for the GCs .

they want to just drag it on for ever , if you go on any of the south forums its clear thats what they are doing as thats what some are posting .

the only way to close this is for the north / turkey to say enough is enough and walk away and declare partition.
