Hi all

We (Alison and Ian) are finaly in North Cyprus, but not in our house, not finished. We are in digs in Alsancak and hope to move in, in January next year. I thought I would give you a potted history of us, Alison first, Over fifty still a looker, been married to me since 1975 two kids. Is a spiritualist, likes dogs walking sunbathing and barbies, is a good cook thats not a beer belly I have.

Now me Over fifty still a looker, been maried to Alison since 1975 same two kids. I have just been made redundant from Royal Mail and I am a multy skilled maintenance engineer working with electronic electrical mechanical equipment and was corgi registered but this has expired but I have not. I Like most sports and cycling. Drinking is a small part of my leisure time lol. "I get easily bored with nothing to do" and enjoy a good crack (thats a chin wag by the way).

Come back and talk to us

Thanks for the messages and stilluvithere is correct for bof, and thanks for the spelling lesson, spelling is my one weekness. Yes I am originaly from up north and now I am still living up north. I am looking for ideas to keep mosses and sand flies from biting me, I am getting paranoid every time I seen a flyin bug.

Thanks again Alison and Ian

Welcome to TRNC Ian and Alison. We moved here earlier this year and love the life we have. Great to be out in the sun instead of freezing like the folks back in the UK. Hope all goes well with your house.

A BIG WELCOME to TRNC Alison & Ian.be flexible in all you do and then life here will not be so difficult.Hope your Xmas & NY will be the first of many good ones.it will be a novelty to have Xmas dinner in shorts n T shirt eh?as for mozzies n sand flies...they will either love you or hate you(leave you alone or make a meal of you!!)

the little B's come out from dusk to dawn so use your gumption(1 for the dialect proffessors !) and dont leave doors n windows open between those hours.as you are having a new home built, invest in quality fly screens from day 1.can't beat them.you will be needing van loads of spray and killing yourselves on the fumes especially in a new build as it will need to dry out and those B's LOVE damp conditions.

Have a great new life here and good luck to you both-so glad you are from the North,we need a bit of evening up here HA HA !!

ps try Janet for fly screens...can recommend.tel 0533 880 94 90

Can I also tell you, my pale irish skin attracts them, they feast on me until i discovered avon skin so soft, they have changed the packaging. Now a white bottle with a blue aqua colour lable. Used my the US marines in war zones. Its not so cheap here and you get great deals in UK. So my friends keep me stocked up. I think in UK 3 for a fiver here 20tl a bottle

Marmite (yeast extract - yuk tough I hate it, hubby loves it!) is good, take vitamin B6 (I think but it is one of the B's), red wine is also supposed to be good and you can enjoy that! Skin So Softly is another one I can recommend I brought loads back from the UK so anyone coming over has something to protect them. Keep a supply of antihistamenes (okay spelt badly but....) for when you need them if you do get bit! I had sand fly fever once and gosh I hope never again. We have fly screens but the little blighters can walk right through the door with you and you don't even see them coming!

Welcome to the TRNC, we hope you home build goes well and gets finished. Not all build stories here are nightmares we have just had extensive building work done to our villa and no hassle, no worries and almost completed now and on time. To say we are very happy is an understatement to say the least.
