This blooming bind weed is by all accounts an absolute bugger to get rid of. However i have been googling the hell out of it this last couple of days, and this is what i've found out.

You can try with weed killer, which may work, but quite often not. And then there's vinegar! Apparently vinegar is the best as bind weed loathes acid...however, so do many other plants, so probably not such a good idea. Then if there's not too much, you can pull off all the leaves, so dis-enabling it to photosynthesize, but if your garden is over run with it....again this isn't much good.

Has anyone else had this problem, and was able to get rid of it?

Being serious for a minute DD this is the only way to get rid -

How to Get Rid of Bindweed:

Vigilance and persistence are the two most useful weapons in your arsenal against bindweed. Watch for signs of this vine, and remove it as quickly as possible. The best way to get rid of bindweed is to cut it off at soil level. Don't bother pulling it up; it will just sprout wherever you tore the roots (and you will. It's impossible to get all of the roots out.) By continually cutting it off at ground level, and doing it as soon as you possibly can, you will eventually starve the plant (since it will be unable to photosynthesize) and it will die. Be patient! You will have to do this several times, but it will work.

I read somewhere that the best weed killer in the world is thick concrete but even that remedy is not absolute for all time.

I read that 2 tablespoons of salt dissolved in a pint of vinegar and used to spray the leaves will cause die back. It will also kill other plants so care is needed. The use of bare salt on and around plants will poison the earth so be careful!

Hi botanica, I have been using bare salt on my lawn to get rid of dandelions for years, the grass round them has never been affected. I use ordinary table salt....never used the vinegar though.....

Daisy

We had this problem,we used a weedkiller that you brush onto the leaves (systemic ) it took such a long time to get rid of them, but it worked in the end, just a very small part of the root left in the ground will grow back again.

Good luck
