I'm really surprised that it took those mugs (yes I mean the Labour lot) 11 years to screw up the ecomony

Trousered millions in bloated salaries, pensions not to mention inflated fiddled expenses and

just to round off The John Lewis list for second homes........for what?

Virtually bankrupting Great Britain, giving the UK away to immigrants of all persuasions

handing over The National Health Service to everyone but the taxpayers that pay for it.

Lumbering us all with PFI debt to line the pockets of their mates...........and last but not

least......

Made the Country the laughing stock of the world.

Who needs enemies, with this Motley Bunch? Should all be locked up.

My opinion thats all...................RANT finally over!

For those of you who think Labour will win the next election then the bookies are offering 5 to 2, while the Tories are 1 to 4, with the other lot at 100s.

Though I feel a change is required, laying out 4 pounds to win 1 looks poor value considering the Tories have not decided on anything yet. It may be worth having a small flutter when the odds for a Labour victory are over 3 to 1 (assuming anyone is interested)

I dont take the money I am afraid, its the Hills and Ladbrokes of this world who give you the chance to win your fortune.

Just checked and Ladbrokes are now offering 11 to 4 Labour to win most seats at the next election.

RE Pipie : (...) will it fall even more in the next 3 months ? 2.16 today (...)

Hmm. In the past four years I've only met Brits who said "The UK will never abandon the pound (or is it Pound?)". The Euro was a laugh, Europe was a laugh - but who's laughing now?

PS. I get my (yearly indexed) Dutch pension in Euro's. No, I ain't complaning, no, not me.

PPS. I forgot to mention for all haters of Labour: wasn't it Mrs. M. Thatcher who wanted a "special position" in the EEC (now EU)..? Well, you got it. Not many EU countries will welcome the bankrupt UK now as a "cooperating member". Too little, too late.

Err I think you will find that the UK economy can hold its own with other EU countries. Where do you get the idea that the UK is bankrupt?

One of the greatest politicians of my generation described Rt Honorable A Blair as the greatest conservative politician of all time.

Afraid I disagree on that point but understand his thinking.

Have you guessed who made that statement?

It was Tony Benn!!!

The UK must never give up the pound, the current situation is caused by a universal situation largely due to oil prices. The reason they have soared - the idiot government of the USA. They cannot control consumption so they go and invade countries that produce oil!

The EU is "run by" half witted non entities who cannot get jobs elsewhere and one day soon most of the population will figure that out and deal with the situation. Obviously people like DC are very well served by these half wits but when the revolution comes people like him will be first against the wall!!!!!!!!!

Do not worry folks, economics has a way of evening things out over time. Yes, you may have had it very good here for a while but this is pay back time. However if you are prepared to stick it out this is still a great place to live.

jennyd,

Whatever you do, NEVER buy your TL in UK. You will almost always get a far better rate here.

Looks like worse to come with Brown & Darling seemingly at logger heads over the economy etc. If the top 2 cannot agree where does it leave the rest of the UK.

Wish I was in a position to offload some TL and wait for the rate to improve later in the year.

I totally agree with cyprusishome, we got a few £'s changed at the weekend in Thomas Cook just to see us over the first day (arriving soon)....BIG mistake. 1.88....NEVER do that again, even for just a few £'s. We always have to learn the hard way, so please listen to the advice of others on BB. Will make sure we keep a few T/L to bring home with us ahead of our next trip out.

the pound was doing o.k.till darling said we were looking a serious recession, they never no when to keep there mouths shut. but the the price of oil is dropping very steadily so if it keeps doing that perhaps things might improve.,then i suppose one of the others will say something stupid and put us back were we started, just seem to be going round in ever decreasing circles.

===> Echoes from the Bierhalle in München, 1923. Hitler rhetoric. Shame on you, Sir.

RE chick : (...) the UK we are are the only ones who send our troops to war even if they are illegal.

===> And you're proud of it?! My tiny country Holland has more troops abroad in peace operations than we have troops in the country. And all actions are covered by the UN, NATO and what have you.

PS. Suddenly I remember how the UK didn't fire one shot for "guaranteed" Poland (1939) but next day shot at a ship with German Jews (and killed two) who tried to save their lives in Palestine.

I really admire the UK for being stand fast in the Second World War, but there is no reason for the UK to be proud of its military adventures now. Basra, Iraq. US lies and no mandate.

DC: "Anyone wants to start a thread based on historical facts?"

Now that is one hell of a challenge. Who needs facts when they can just spout mindless hearsay rhetoric picked up at the "theme" pub just before throwing out time?

Hans

The British are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross."

Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies all but ran out. Terrorists themselves have been re-categorised from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was during the great fire of 1666.

Also, the French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Surrender" and "Collaborate." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability. It's not only the English and French that are on a heightened level of alert.

Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."

The Germans also increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbour" and "Lose."

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual, and the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

The Swiss, as always, have taken the phone off the hook.

OK, Lem! Your post makes this day end with a laugh! To complete your post: the first alert in Holland is: call the Soldiers Union and ask for, sorry, demand two new hair nets and ear rings. Alert 2: White flag inspection. Alert 3: A message to the enemy: we don't fight between Friday 4 pm and Monday morning 8.30 am. Alert 4: Complaint with the UN: war may damage our economics. Have a nice Wednesday, Lem!

Good wishes to you both, you have a lot to contend with.

I've never seen such bitter anomosity before here.
