hi

I am a qualified secondary teacher in the uk where I teach IT and English. I also speak several languages including Turkish.

I am considering moving to North Cyprus but can anyone tell me what job prospects are like?

Thanx

There is a new school opening in Girne, beleypias this september, although at this stage it is only reception and year 1. But the building for the junior and secondary school will be completed next september. Outstanding school, following the European curriculum, being run by very professional people. May be worth looking into as i should imagine they are looking for somebody with your experience. The school is ESK ( English School Kyriena ) not sure of number, but will try and get it for you

Unless you are a TC, hope you don't have a degree or studied for one. TRNC government planning to stop foreigners getting jobs. See Cyprus Today Aug 23 -29

I quote ' Mr Adem (Labour and Social security Minister) said 'No work permits will be issued for sectors where local labour exists or high school or university education is required. Exceptions will be made only when in a specific technical area local staff cannot be found.'

It is not known if this will affect existing foreign workers. Details to be announced in September.

Strongly advise you visit NC to research further.

Why did Portia suddenly become Porshe, and change from 'widowed' to 'single'?

RE msg 11, kaiserphil > Why did Portia suddenly become Porshe, and change from 'widowed' to 'single'? <

=> Because (and I said it in several other threads AND I can prove it): this board is flooded with liars. Sorry to say it, but it's the truth.

Hi

this all sounds very pessimistic, no doubt there are brits and other nationalities who would like to learn Turkish - I would and I will be looking for an English speaker to teach me.

I would seriously suggest you google all the unis and schools here (or someone can give a list) and write to them all and see if they can help.

An e mail to eachone won't take long as an introduction.

As to foreigners working, the give away is in the idea that if a suitably qualified local cannot be found, then the foreigner can get the work. The same applied inthe south 20 years ago when I was teaching there. I got in because there was not anyone suitable locally to teach with my qualifications. So there is nbothing new - it is just a quesiton of finding the right 'hole'.

I would suggest you write to them all before youcome over - but, but...... don't expect high wages. Teaching does nOT pay here as in U.K and if you are looking to live on your salary you could find things tight.

Good luck.
