| A British grandmother is being threatened with deportation - even though she's lived in the UK for 65 years. Joan Wakely was born in Canada but moved to Britain at only six months old and has paid taxes for decades. But the grandmother is now being asked to pay a fine and face a UK citizenship test after she was stopped by airport immigration officials in August.Despite spending almost her entire life in Hertfordshire and Dorset, Mrs Wakely has been given six months to remian in Britain before potentially being deported to Canada, even though she has no home or family there. Mrs Wakely was pulled aside by airport officials at Gatwick Airport after a recent holiday to Florida and told she was an 'illegal alien' after her Canadian passport was inspected. She must pay £480 and pass a UK citizenship to remain in the country yet there is no guarantee her application will be accepted.'It's ludicrous,' said Mrs Wakely. | I'm surprised she was travelling on a Canadian passport if she's been in the UK so long, has no home or family in Canada and has paid taxes in to the UK system all her life, I wonder why she's never been given, or applied for, a UK passport. |

| My Dad spent the last 58 of his 62 years of life in the UK, Canadian born he worked all his life in the UK never once drawing benefit, he spent six years in the RAF regiment in some very nasty little 'actions' and it was a constant source of irritation when mum and me went into one queue at Heathrow and he had to rough it with the rest. Should have worn a Burkha! |

| Re : Msg 10, No1, Have no fear! P.S. I think she will be exempt from the citizenship test as she is over 65. Brinsley is right - "The Daily Wail" |
