Please can someone help us. We have a 1 year old Rottweiler that we needed to rehome.

We have had her from a puppy but have come to the discision that we are not the right family for her.

She needs to be with a family that does not have small children or other animals. They need to have time to spend with her and a firm hand to train her as she is now very strong and very excitable and strong willed.

Dont get me wrong she is a beautiful dog and with the correct family I am sure she will be a fantastic friend and companion.

She is all up to date with her vaccinations and has been neutered about a month ago.

And before anyone starts, we know that we probably should never have got her and if we knew then what we know now we wouldnt have bought her into the family. Hindsight is a wonderful thing isnt it.

Please can someone help.

Giving up on the poor dog is the easy way out, I think. Rottweilers, Dobermanns and the likes need training by an expert (try Lena Lindh, NCDC Cat and Dog Hotel: http://www.willenco.com ) and yes it costs money and time. Your Rottweiler deserves not to suffer from your 'error'.

Thanks for the info but like I said hindsight is a wonderful thing. We have had dogs in the past and know what we are doing with them but this one is proving too much for us. As we also have 3 young children and think that this is the right decision for us.

We do not want her to suffer from our mistake either.

I am astounded that anyone would get a Rottweiler when they have three young children. I am not saying all Rottweilers, much like Dobermans or Alsations are dangerous; I do believe most dogs are the product of their training - that said, a Rotty is always going to be the size of a brick s**t house, extremely large, heavy and need heaps of exercise so although hindsight is indeed a wonderful thing - in this case - there was more than enough information in the public arena to have made an informed decision. I hope whomever takes the dog on, does so with love and knowledge about what is required and not take her as a status symbol or to turn her aggressive as a guard dog.

I wish you well Doola3 finding a new loving home for your pet dog, As you say hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Unfortunatley there is no try before you buy where animals are concerned, and you never know for sure if things are going to work out regarding family life in general,

Regards

Thank you Saffi for your kind words. We do hope to find her a loving home soon.

MsGarnet for your information we did not buy the dog as a 'status symbol' or to 'turn her aggression as a guard dog' we bought her as a family pet and as previously stated we have had dogs like this before and know what we are doing.

I was reluctant to put the posting on Cyprus44 as we have seen some of the other postings with regards to rehoming dogs and al the negative responses but we were hoping that someone on here would be able to offer Roxy a loving home.

I dont think anyone has the right to judge me or my family for making this discision as you do not know our circumstances. This decision was not taken lightly.

If you cant offer us any help only critisim then may I suggest that you keep your opinions to yourself.

Please ignore all the ignorant people who comment on things that they know nothing about.

I have 2 rottweilers myself and they are fantastic family pets if trained correctly and with a firm hand as said by yourself. It takes a strong person to bring order to such a large animal and most people recognise their deep throated mumblings as agression when infact it is excitement.

I have two young children myself and a third on the way and I feel no way threatened by my dogs.

I quite understand how you feel as these dogs do take a lot of work and understanding and I respect the fact that you acknowledge the fact that you are not the right family to give the dog the firm hand that she needs, If only other dog owners would admit their failings the world would be a safer place.

Good luck with finding her a new home. I only wish that we had the room but we have 3 dogs in total already.

All the best

Why not get some posters made up and put them in the local supermarkets that way you reach more people. Good Luck with re homing. I think you are doing the right thing as I don't like the thought of dogs like that around young children, in my opinion they are unpredictable.

Doola3 - any chance you can e-mail a photo? I have a friend who has 2 rotties, and I'm pretty sure she would be very tempted to take on a 3rd..

Sorry - didn't realise my e-mail address was hidden. ally.t.t@gmail.com - although I just noticed you said she'd need to be with a family without other animals. Any particular reason why? Has she not been socialized? My friend's 2 rotties live indoors with another dog (small terrier) and the family cat.

She has not really too much contact with other dogs. When she does, she gets so over excited that sometimes other dogs react as if they think she is being aggressive. She doesnt have an aggressive bone in her body but maybe not the right family for her. She definately doesnt like cats. Thank you anyway. xx

I will still have a word with Muge, her 2nd rottie arrived much the same. Not sure she'll be willing to start training and socialising from scratch though.. Will await the photos.

dont forget to put your posters at the vets where many people will be able to see them, this is a sad posting, with hindside probably unneccessary but I hope the outcome for your dog is a good one and will find a loving and knowloedgable new owner and your stress will reduce. Good luck

Good luck love, its never easy. I would put some posters at the vets as well as what is mentioned here. Maybe place an ad in turkisk newspapers as they like rotties.I wish you all the luck in the world, I respect your decision and understand your reasons. You are acting reponsibly trying to rehome it and not turn it out as so many do.

hi love i can understand that, i have a staffi and god forbid the way things are here we may have to go back to get jobs. He is my baby , i brought him here but to all intents now the are classed as dangerous. I was told this week as soon as rottis or staffis or any bulldog types get into the homes, there is a waiting list for them. Now I have to question WHY.I have a beautiful little girl so in need a more than i can give her, I have a lovely couple who would love to take her to the UK, quarine laws stop it . Im also told now there is a awaiting list for dogs at the homes they can charge 400 to 500 pounds for a mongrel.WHY.

I am so sorry to hear that Lilli. We wish things could have been diffferent for us and Roxy but it has all just too much for us. It is not her fault, we are obviously part of the issue and understand that and this why we have decided to find her a new home. I am very very reluctant to take her to a home as I know that they are over burdened anyway and we would prefer to meet anyone that is prepared to home her. It makes me very angry that certain breeds are classified as dangerous just because there are a few nasty people out there that train their dogs to be that way when they are not all like that at all. So very depressing. Lets hope that there is a happy end for both of us (and the dogs as well). xx

Best of luck with the re-homing, at least you have the wisdom and courage to admit you can't cope. Much better to have her re-homed than euthanised if she does get out of control. x

She is a lovely dog and we have seen no sign of any aggression from her, as commented on earlier she isnt would soon lick you to death.
