Last night as I sat out appreciating the moon and the clement weather I heard a constant background noise. It was constant like the cicadas but a higher pitch. Does anyone know what the creature is that makes this noise? Is it the last dying noises of the cicadas? Not a question one can google really is it?

I have this as well and I think you can put it down to some very small bright green and highly poisonous tree frogs, they seem to have filled the trees in my garden. I also believe that these are some of the smallest frogs in the world and they make the most noise.

Here he is and apparently the ones here in Cyprus are not poisonous the poisonous ones live in South America.

Found a youtube clip of them and it definitely was the same sound.

Navek I have those in my garden, but do not live near a pond or any pools. I wonder where they lay their eggs?

Thanks Navek, they are so sweet. Mine live on a clump of canna which ı keep very wet, but I don't where they would go to breed, I have heard that they travel quite a distance if necessary though!

Hi Navek

yes that's the one I found when I googled it. I haven't seen any here but there are some obviously very close by as they sounded as if they were sitting beside me last night.... lovely. They are so pretty.

Ailletoo. If the winter weather does arrive some time soon they are likely to hide up most of the time under dead leaves etc to keep warm so enjoy them while you can and look out for them next Spring. The ones in our garden sunbathe together in an umbrella plant of the fishpond.
