One day in 1878 this man, with a never seen wooden box on a tripod ("camera obscura"), visited the Kantara monastery. He was the British photographer whose heritage of hundreds of pictures of Cyprus is now, more than 130 years later, a joy to view. They're all long gone: the photographer, the amazed locals on his pictures - but many of the pictured buildings can still be visited. The monastery of Kantara is one of them... In this thread: a lovely picture, some text to explain the importance of Kantara Monastery and an attached map for your convenience... Enjoy the picture and maybe later a day out to Kantara Castle and... Kantara Monastery! More here: [ http://is.gd/hAcoH ].

Don't worry, DC, it is their "aggregate state".

P.S. Thank you for the Kantara monastery info.

Update of Kantara Monastery here: [ http://is.gd/hAcoH ]. View how the people in 1878 were shown the nature between Kantara Castle and Kantara Monastery... Amazing!

I've added another fine drawing of the Kantara Monastery anno 1878. Although the monastic building looks decaying - the monastery was obviously still inhabited!

All updates for you to choose from [ http://is.gd/gctxf ].

So DC when will you improve this horrible website and bring it up to date? You criticise all others but you need to put your house in order especially as you have banner adverts and are looking for "posts" or so it seems from Cyp 44 members.

RE msg 13, Pugwash: Hundreds of visitors to my site again today, from all over the world. Mainly students, who cannot visit Cyprus or the Crusading countries I have visited. Their positive reactions - and the ones on this board - count for me. The childish criticism from a stalking Granny in Girne is unimportant. Go do the dishes.

Thanks Hans, any news on the old church ruins you found a little while ago?
