The lady at the private hospital at the back of the Pia Bella hotel is good, works at the main Nicosia hospital mornings and at the Private hospital in the afternoons, she is also very thorough.

Hi racoonchic , any optician will be able to recognise pressure in the inner eye by doing a routine eye test , if any pressure present he will then refer you onto the Hospital for a Tonometry Test which measures the pressure in the inner eye . My husband was diagnosed last year with it .

Hope this helps , Simbas

RE msg 1: This is a young, good doctor (my experience).

Opthamologist Dr. S. Deniz Atakan

Celiker Hastahanesi

20 Temmuz Stadum arkasi

T: 03928154950

Location: 13Fa on my Map of Girne (medical). View the map here or download it (free and regularly updated).

P.S. My opinion about the female Opthamologist in Girne: she ALWAYS find cataract and advises you to seek her treatment.

Re message 6 - I have had a number of eye tests over the years at Girne Private Hospital and I have always been very happy with lady doc. there and have recommended other people to her. Never known her to mention spurious cataracts etc to me or anyone else. Are you sure that you are not thinking of the one at the International Eye Clinic in the High Street in Girne? She definitely has a reputation for this kind of thing and I would given that place a very wide berth!

RE msg 9, nostradamus: I definitely meant "the one at the International Eye Clinic in the High Street in Girne". I apologise to any other lady Opthamologist that may practice in Girne.

Snap re Internatinal Eye Clinic. Several of my small circle of friends, and myself, were diagnosed with cataracts there, which was not confirmed by further tests elsewhere including in UK.

I only wanted a prescription for new reading glasses, but after her ("the one at the International Eye Clinic in the High Street in Girne") diagnosis I felt happy not to be dead yet... That's why I went to Opthamologist Dr. S. Deniz Atakan (msg 6) for a second opinion - without telling him - and he found nothing that should be urgently treated. Beware of "the one at the International Eye Clinic in the High Street in Girne" - I'm not the only one who doesn't trust her (more on this board!).

I too was diagnosed cataracts at the International Eye Clinic. Had two more independent diagnosis, one in the South and one in the UK, both confirmed this was not the case.

My two friends were also 'diagnosed' with catarachts by the same lady, they were so worried that they flew back to the UK to see an optician there, needless to say there were NO signs of catarachts. I think that someone in government should be taking an interest in all this.

I need a routine eye test and new prescription/glasses. Dr Mine Ozturk at the Medikent appears to be the recommendation.

What is the going rate for an eye test and also for a pair of reading specs?????
