For the 29 miners traped underground in New Zealand. Now 4 days on and a remote controlled robot has broken down.I hope to God they are as lucky as the miners in Chile and China. Please God let them get out safely.

Very sad, if it is too dangerous to send in rescue teams it seem very unlikely that any of them can survive.

It is just horrible. One only hopes they died in the first blast, and quickly.

Two Scots among them also. Just terrible for their loved ones.

Phyl I lived in hope since hearing the news, like you I hope it was quick but to be gassed. My heart goes out to all the relatives and of course now who ever is responsible. Its all been so much now with the other two big ones. Living in Wales we saw a lot of tradgedy with the mining community x

not trying to be annoying but when things are in the media it is sad but all the time people die

on average, 146,357 people die each day, 6,098 people die each hour, and 102 people die each minute.

Fukace

I dont want to get to involved in this . But going down a mine to get some coal is slightly different to going to war and killing or getting killed . pugwash thanks for that.

Lilli - yes, I remember the Aberfan disaster when hundreds of kids were buried alive at a school in

S.Wales when a coal slag collapsed on them. The pain is the same when you don't know for sure if

they are dead or alive, and can't get to help them. After the wonderful rescue in Chile and then China

some were hopeful, and it just makes it more poignant. (My maternal grandfather, was a miner for some

time in Yorkshire, and having both legs broken in a mining accident, he left. I never knew him though)

In October 1913 in Senghenydd S.Wales (the village where I was born) over 400 miners died in an explosion. Half of the bodies were never recovered. It is the biggest mining disaster in UK history. Every family in the village lost someone. It's one hell of a price to pay for coal. My heart goes out to those in New Zealand.
