Can I ask why it is that some posters on this forum feel the need to be abusive and insulting to others just because those others may have a different opinion about things. We are all individuals and are entitled to express our own opinions yet there are certainly a couple of members on this board who regularly come out with personal and nasty insults to people who disagree with them. All it does it to stop people from posting for fear of being attacked or ridiculed, is that what the board is all about, perhaps the mods could keep an eye on this and have a quiet word with the worst offenders for the sake of other members.

You will always get people like that Hatti - it's easy to hide behind a fake name and a keyboard!!

Just ignore them and eventually they go away - in the mean time the Mods should do their Job...

I have no intention of giving up Spider, but I do think some people need to lighten up and not try to bully others in to thinking the same way as them.

Hatti I agree with you, I have myself been the recipient of personal and nasty insults, which resulted in me not posting or replying to posts for fear of being verbally attacked by these people.

I don't hide behind a fake name, my name is plain to see, your right also that we are all entitled to our opinions, unfortunately some people on this forum think because they don't agree with what you say, that you are open for attack from them.

I am sure there are people that are reluctant to post because of these people, so mods please try to keep an eye on the situation.

Or it could be their superiority complex that causes the problem, whatever it is it gets very tedious.

Hatti,

Don't let them get to you, if you do, they win. Ignore them. Most of them need to take up a hobby or something. This forum can be quite useful at times with good information being exchanged between the less deranged posters. ;-)

It's not just this forum.

I use a number of forums on different subjects and have noticed a worrying increase in vitriol on all of them during the last couple of years.

As to what the reason is I'm not sure. Recession, inflation, worries over our futures? They may all be contributory, or maybe it's the potential anonymity of the internet ?

As Basil Brush once said,.... 'The future isn't what it used to be'.

i think these kind of people would.nt say boo to a goose in the real world.they probably have a low opinion of themselves and not too good at holding conversations but admire others that can.Hiding behind their pc under a different name probably makes them feel tough. They get a buzz out of it.

There's only one way to deal such despicable behaviour - it's called an 'ON/OFF' mains switch - or, 'BATTERY EJECT' in the case of a laptop!

I think I was attacked once, not so long ago but I can't remember any names because I hold no grudges. Somebody had started a new thread complaining about somebody. Based on the original message I condemned the person who was actually complaining. Somebody stated support for my condemnation but later apologized because she had relied on some other facts proved wrong. My reasons for condemnation were totally different and they were not changed and I held my position. Then there was a barrage of insults towards me for not apologizing like the other lady. Of course I did not because I had no reason for it. Unfortunately we all have to endure these bullies occasionally.

There seem to be 3 major rules on this forum, and hundreds of lesser ones........

1. Never voice an opinion

2. Never say "I Think"

3. Never make any spolling mustakes..

Other than that your OK...have fun....

If it is of any consolation we are starting to weed out the trouble makers and those that have been 'yellow carded' will receive a ban without warning if they they do not comply with board rules.

It is correct that most transgressions take place in the evening and late at night. In the daytime the board virtually runs itself. There are a few that have been banned lately for prolific bad language and on one particular occasion there was one member that up until now had posted acceptable messages but late the other night/early morning he/she decided to pepper at least 5/6 different threads with foul language.

None of the Forum Admin can monitor every thread and postings within those threads. We quite often rely on e-mails from those that are upset/annoyed over certain threads/postings and if we do not pick up on these trouble makers straight away then please e-mail us at forumadmins@cyprus44.com

Bill, thanks for your support. I really do hope you get it sorted before I loose the will to post on here anymore. It is terrible now. I have people slagging off every post I make because of the sausagegate scandal. I wish people would just be polite even if it is to complain about something someone has said.

Unfortunately it is easy to be brave and anonymous behind a computer screen - and I sympathize with the administrators and a hard job that they have to police this!

I have often found that late at night... fuelled...people are often more brave...

I have it on good authority that West Wales this morning was below freezing with a white frost covering everything. The back roads were a bit scary and the motorways virtually clear. Beautiful, I understand to be seen from the inside of a car or a house, but freezing one's fingers to the bone. The weather forecast shows the snow to be confined to Scotland and Suffolk, but who knows what may come by the sweek-end.

I cannot believe how some posters on here decide to gang up in the most play ground fashion. Grown up folk who blatently discuss plan of actions at local watering holes on how to gang up and attack others on this forum.

These obnoxious posters do not stop there they then continue to post under double identities and then feel self satisfied go to bed with a smirk on their face

.

Personally I an a great believer in what goes round comes round, so any one who is on the receiving end from these pathetic little posters just sit back, let the pathetic burn themselves out !!

RE msg 1 and 42, hattikins: In msg 15 moderator No1Doyen asked you a very straight question, I quote: "Hattikins. Can you point me in the right direction of the offender."

Why don't you do that including some recent abusive or insulting examples? What is the use of posts with only accusations (msg 1) and insinuations (msg 42)?

With all due respect Hattikins, I've read your 1st posting this morning(UK) and sat here wondering what has gone on. I know you and DC don't see eye to eye but in this case I think he is correct in asking to give examples.

Personally I think it is time for naming and shaming with an e mail to moderators giving the reason why someone has had to do this. Its nearly every thread started someone comes on causing arguments or sways away from what is being discussed which is also annoying. In the middle of a thread someone will ask how someone is and you get the low down of a weather forecast or private conversations that no one else understands.

I also believe some people are quick to jump without reading postings accurately or fully understanding what has been written or prepared to listen to other points of view. Hattikins, your message 45 to DC surely could have just said that you have e mailed your concerns instead of jumping down his throat.

This 'syndrome' to put it into context is something that has been known about for years and has been included in teaching adults.

When people are on their computers they are sitting safely in their own living room/home in comfort away from the world and their thinking mechanisms switch. They talk/write as they normally would in their own home safe and secure in the knowledge that they can do that. If they are in a public place with the other person in front of them - they are not be so rude/objectionable as they know their will be responses which they might not be able to deal with face to face.

This happens a lot if Customer Service, particularly when customers are making complaints by phone - their attitude is totally difference when on the phone in the comfort of their own home to when they are dealing with the person face to face.

Sitting behind computers and posting nonsense is one thing, I think we can all put up with that as we have to choices do not respond or stand your ground.

However when the poster then threatens violence or tells deliberate lies and appears to hound someone then it becomes more serious.

Serious for the actual threatening poster whomake these threats In my opinion only in the minority thank goodness, however he/she defiantly has a biggest problem and that is with them selves and not the ones they are threatening.

Message 47,

I don't think I did jump down anyones throat and I have no intention of getting in to a slanging match with DC, I just don't think it has anything to do with him who I email or what I include in the emails.

Incidentally what would be the point in naming and shaming on the board, it would just bring out the worst in some people and even more personal insults would be thrown about so I'll leave it up to the mods to address.

RE msg 53, hattikins: (...) I just don't think it has anything to do with him who I email or what I include in the emails (...)

=> From your msg 1: "... perhaps the mods could keep an eye on this and have a quiet word with the worst offenders for the sake of other members."

You first mentioned 'email' (to moderators?) in your msg 45.

A bit late to explain why you didn't publicly reply to No1Doyen's question in msg 15.

I rest my case.

P.S. And whatever others may think or write: I have nothing against you - how could I, I have no idea who you are.
