Yesterday, at Immigration/Girne Police Station, I met a really good guy called Martin - told me he was in 40 [my nephew is currently in 45]. This guy has always been a rugby union fanatic - purely a spectator now!

I think he told me that he has previously attended your reunions, so hopefully you'll meet him again!

For obvious reasons I cannot divulge his location on a public forum - at least, not without his express permission.

Thank you very much for the invite and shall be delighted to attend the next time I am over, but unlike you Marines the AIRBORNE is in demand for keeping the world a safer place to live in!!

Heres a point to chew over-- upto 1998 the record for your Assault Course at Lympstone was held by 6 Platoon B Coy of 2 PARA!!

Would genuinely be interested to hear an honest update!

The reason why I know its true was that in 1998 when I was with 3 Para we failed to beat it, thats when we were informed of the record and we had a good night on the lash with your guys in Exeter that night. No dramas .......honestly !!!!!!

gusanova,

Here's one for you to chew on - which unit of the British armed forces made the the last Operational jump, where and when?

Clue - It wasn't the Paras!

Now I am interested here,

as last person to have a RED ENTRY on his Parachute log Book was LT Col Chaundler when he jumped into the Falklands.

SAS made HALO and HAHO into former Yugoslavia since.

Last Regimental Scale Operational Jump was SUEZ,

Go on TRNCVaughan enlighten me please.

My son, who is a sergeant in 2 Sqn (Parachute Enabled) RAF Regiment, jumped into Sierra Leone in 2001 as part of Operation Silkman. They flew from Brize to Ascension by Crab Air then transfered to C130s for the jump.

This was done for 2 reasons - 1. To put the wind up the Jundies and 2. To take the title from the Paras who jumped into Suez.

re msge 9

interestingly despite paras being in the majority of applicants for sas selection, until 1983 the record for Long Drag was held by a Marine from 45......eat your hearts out you airborne warriors. Have lost track of the record since.
