David Cameron was warned last night by America that damaging secrets of the 'special relationship' between the two are about to be published on the whistleblower website 'WikiLeaks'

The website is on the verge of revealing almost 3 million documents, including thousands of sensitive diplomatic cables sent to Washington from the American Embassy in Lonfon.

Some documents are said to reveal that Turkey has helped Al Qaeda in Iraq - an extraordinary revelation which could kill off Turkeys hopes of joint the EU.

As well as Britain, the US has warned the governments of Australia, Canada,Denmark, Norway and Israel in advance of the release.

One British official said they feared that mutual American and British contempt for the French would emerge.

Interesting.

I guess we now know which side Turkey is on.

I believe our evolutionary calling demands that we become more open and honest as a civilisation, however the vast vast majority (me included) are not ready for this tremendous leap. Wikileaks has the potential to force us to become more open as a species, however I fear that it is going to push us in to a real crises. With nation states feeling vulnerable over the economic challenges that we now face we could easily regress which could take us to a very very nasty place indeed.

ilovecyprus. I know where you're coming from. This will cause more damage than the current financial situation around the world. I hope whatever revelations are made someone somewhere can justify them or this could escalate into something none of us wants.

If this particular revelation is true it would almost certainly put an end to Turkeys hopes of joining the EU.

These cover documents from the American embassy, whose sources are their intelligence agents, who in turn rely on the local hearsay. I do not believe thatmost of these documents claiming involvement on the part of others have any substantial proof in them. They are merely hysterical ammunition for use in future withinthe public domain, should the American - UK partnership of joint action demand their use!

Remeber Iraqis? and all the Nuclear and Chemical weapons they were supposed to have in possession!

I think that would be true Bill.

It might have the opposite effect. EU nations might say 'shit', we have ostracised Turkey, not loved her, so we have forced her to embrace the radical side of her character, forcing her to keep her options open. Perhaps it is urgent that we bring her in to the fold.

well it says that turkey did little to secure its border with iraq, which aided al qaida

which is a little different to turkey directly helping al qaida

but still helping al qaida kick out the americans and the british from iraq would give turkey huge support amongst the millions of businesses throughout the region. Every cloud has a silver lining

we must not forget that many countries indirectly support the resistance to us and british occupation of iraq, including saudi, syria, lebanon, and many of the gulf states, and probably china, india , pakistan and russia. None of whom benefit from a us controlled iraq

This is very different from helping al qaida. Turkey borders Iraq so she has to be diplomatic.

The intelligence community postulates all sorts of scenarios vis a vis what other clandestine organisations are up to... that these brain dumps and communiques end up on WikiLeaks and other locations as fact are not helpful to the wider community who don't have the wherewithal to sift through the dross to find the nuggets of truth...

In itself this is worrying but not as much as the idea that it's more damaging than the financial crisis.

Wealth and the desire for wealth is the cause for more of the world's strife than any other single factor and the start of problems to come can be identified with the initial demonising of a country whose assets you covet.

So who is being demonised in this 'release of leaks' if the reports are true... none other than Turkey.

I wouldn't put it past some of the likes of the CIA to engineer these leaks to serve a wider ulterior motive.

The Washington Post reported that the files will contain allegations that the U.S. has supported the PKK, a Kurdish rebel organization that has been waging a separatist war against Turkey since 1984.

I'm wondering if these leaks are in the "insurance" file which had been encrypted with an unbreakable key and is found at https://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5723136/WikiLeaks_insurance

The idea is that if you want to read the Wikileak information and somehow governments prevent this, as the UK are trying to do, then the key to the encrypted file will be released and all those who have downloaded the file can unlock it and read it anyway. No one knows what's in it and therefore it can't be banned as being secret material.

"In itself this is worrying but not as much as the idea that it's more damaging than the financial crisis".

I am assuming your comments are aimed at my remarks.

I am not saying that the leaked wikileaks are potentially more dangerous than the financial crisis. When a plane goes down, it is normally a result of several failures, not just one event.

If significant , wikileeks could erode trust between nations, which would not be helpful when G20 countries are struggling to come to an agreement about trade deficits and surpluses. Protectionism could follow

Your comments about wealth as being the no one cause of strife are very interesting. I had not considered this as clearly as you have just stated. Thank you.

I always thought that the main reasons for wars were for power over others, territory, scarce resources, fear, humiliation, ideology and ethnic tension. I had seen wealth as a way of preventing wars through wealth creation.

Demonizing another is a vicious

Considering the American economy is probably held up by selling arms - they are going to have a busy time. Love to see what some of the others leaders in this corrupt world think of America - they would have a shock I feel sure.

Apparently the Guardian today, Monday, state that the US makes a devastating criticism of UK operations in Afghanistan and serious political criticisms of David Cameron.

It also makes reference to a member of the Royal Family making innapropriate comments.

I can see this escalating over the coming days.

Definately seems like 'a storm in a tea cup'. There doesn't deem to be much contained in the leaks that we do not already know.

The only interesting item, so far, is the Saudis sanctioning the invasion of Iran. They know a nutter when they see one.

Due to the fallout over Iraq, western liberal thinkers have made the invasion of Iran an impossibility.

As Groucho says "wealth and desire". Repeat what my mother taught me:

War begats poverty, poverty peace,

Peace brings riches and faith ne'er doth cease,

Riches bring pride, pride is war's ground,

War begats poverty,

So goes the round.
