Property buyers who cannot obtain a TRNC title deed are being asked to send information to the British Residents' Society (BRS) so the scale of the problem can be established. Article (including a phone number and a link to a website) from Cyprus Today here: [ http://is.gd/hRKON ].

Not all property buyers read the forum or the websites so the problem will never be resolved via this suggested route. It would be so simple for the Land Registry Office to write to all such buyers if they are seriously interested in finding a solution to this particular problem ... but going on past experience, they won't!

At least someone else is taking an interest and trying to help a particular group. Each small step helps!

Let's not criticise - let's help spreading the BRS initiative as mentioned in Cyprus Today (November 27, 2010).

The link in the paper is http://www.emppsite.com and you don't have to be a BRS member to submit to the survey.

If you know someone with kocan, or other buying troubles who doesnt reside here all the time, or doesnt read the newspaper etc tell them about this initiative, give them the website address and let them do the rest. It is an easy little questionnaire - and you never know, it may do some good - the more figures that the BRS has, the more clout it has when it tries to tackle the powers that be.

The Property Complaints Office had detailed information about over 300 cases before the current government closed them down, perhaps the BRS could get the government to reopen the PCO and get them to sort out those problems instead of asking the same complainants to fill in more forms. Trouble is I doubt the victims will bother and this will be used as an excuse to say there are very few complaints in the TRNC. Could always ask HBPG, they have details of 1000s of complaints collected over 5 years.

I have just completed the questionaire and I think its good that the BRS are getting involved.

Well done and I hope that there can be some satisfactory result in the future.

I am of course very pleased that the BRS are going to make what no doubt will have to be a lot of effort to encourage government to address the housing problems but as Walkerscott has said I also believe government has all the information it needs and it is a will to change anything which is lacking. It certainly has more detail than the survey will ever collate. In particular if government is to be made well aware that foreigners now understand the whole ugly picture then perhaps the survey must include details of the numbers who have a Kocan, how long it took to gain this, and whether or not it was achieved by paying all the taxes for which the builder was legally responsible and details of any other "bungs" paid. Even a slight indication of the % of buyers who have Kocan would be revealing.

But it only asks if you have a registered contract and permission to buy!

A registered contract and permission to buy are irrelvant if you're being evicted by a bank over a martgage you never took out.

So, the BRS has finally woken up. Better late than never,I suppose. Thought they were only interested in registered members?

If the "victims" don't bother then they can't be too concerned, can they? It's all too easy to do nothing or let someone else try on your behalf.

One would think that if you were going to complete a survey that identifies the problems associated with buying in the TRNC you would also be asking:

1. how many have completed but not got their deeds?

2. How many have memorandums on their properties?

They seem only to be interested in how many are waiting for PTP.

STRANGE!

No not really strange. One step at a time. No doubt to look for impediments to a clear title will be a next step !

Sorry but I disagree. Why not gather as much information as possible? Is it not a complete waste of time having to revisit information when it could have been done simultaneously? Not good business sense and by looking also at deed transfer numbers and memorandums together with PTP it will allow more information for use when problem solving.

What is the good of solving the PTP problem if you can still not get your deeds because of developer refusal or memorandums and mortgages? They all go hand in hand, like dominoes if one falls, they all fall.
