No.1 - I hadn't really considered this until now, but I do feel it may benefit me in giving some respite from the pain caused by my ingrowing toenail. What do others think? P

Bill, not at present, but I am considering consulting a chiropodist. PS I did try drinking port, but that seemed to aggravate the gout.

Thanks Bill, will definitely give them a go. Just one other thing, I find my socks tend to "bunch up" a bit, especially with those flip flops that go in between your big toe and the one next to it. Any tips please? Paul

Paul, message 8. I'm not a fashionista but I'm sure that you should not be wearing socks with flip flops. This could be the reason why you have Ingrowing toenails.

Paul. What toe has the Ingrowing toenail? You may have to have it surgically removed. I don't know if there are any specialists in the trnc that would be able to carry out such a delicate operation.

tip! Put a piece of cotton between the toe and the nail and leave it hanging down for a few days...this will stop the nail embedding itself any further and after a few days you will be able to pull the nail back on its own...better than surgery and cheaper....

I'm sure the cotton wool method would work Paul, but you would need to cover your foot otherwise it wouldn't look right. It would save you the cost of an operation though. Can I ask - do you bite your toenails?

No, I think It may have caused the problem you now have. An old remedy for Ingrowing toenails is to soak the nail in povidone-iodine. Do they have brine in the trnc?

message 22 and 27........it only needs to be a tiny bit of cotton (and it could be flesh coloured!!) just over lappping the edge of the nail either side......it would not be noticable at all and I can guarantee this works........tried and tested!!

Paul, you must be careful. Ingrown toenails are a painful condition and are also known as Onychocryptosis Unguis incarnatus. It is a common form of nail disease and a painful condition that causes the nail to cut into one or both sides of the nail bed. An ingrown toenail is most commonly seen in the big toe, but in growth can take place on any nail. Do you have a pair of flip flops?

Re 39... They are NOT Flip Flops if they have a strap across the foot due to the fact they don't go flip flop when you walk. They go more slap slap. I am not sure what they are called if they have a strap across the foot (maybe slippers)?

The only benefit I can think of is that you should be able to hack at your ingrown toenail with any cutting implement to hand without the strenuous effort of taking off the flip flops. If you venture out in them you may wish to leave your trousers off so that the inevitable crowds only take the p...s regarding your Speedo Y fronts and ignore the flip flops. Perhaps best not to paint your toe nails in lurid colours in case you distract passing motorists.

Re 43... Sorry Blackbird I have to respectfully disagree. I have had Mrs Swanny run round the house in flip flops which went “flip flop” and then with Jangols (strapped sandals over the foot) which went “slap slap” due to the fact they were held tighter to the foot than the flip flop. Test done on stone floor, with size 6 footwear, speeds from 1 to 6 kph were reached and Mrs Swany weighs.......... don’t think that will make too much difference (will take the fifth on that point).

Re 46... Swany - where as I value the findings of your extensive research I cannot completely agree with your findings. The basis of your tests is a female size 6 at various speeds. However - I am size 9-10 six feet tall and weigh............. lets just say heavy! Unfortunately my floor is not stone - but tiled - the air and surface temperature is probably cooler by a few degrees 'cos it's minus 6 outside, but in the interest of this experiment I have turned the heating to number11, the log burner stocked up high in order to try and replicate the conditions similar to what you might have over there. I have flip flops with a band over the foot...and to my interpretation.....they are going flip flop!

Blackbird maybe just maybe between us we have made a discovery! That the noise from flip flops is gender specific. It could be if you did the same test with through the toe flip flops they would make a slap slap noise meaning there is noise reversal across genders. This could be a very worthy phd study and I would be honoured if we could do it as a joint effort rather than competing. Maybe we could go to the 44 forum for sponsorship in such an important area of research.

If you're going to wear your flip-flops try not to go out with chipped nail-varnish. Matching nail-varnish and flip-flops would look nice. (Nothing looks worse than chipped varnish.) Also if your big toe nail falls off, you can just paint the skin where the toe nail used to be. You could maybe also find a colour-coordinating knotted handkerchief to stop bald patches going bright red under the continuing sun. When you find it gets a bit chilly, you could advance to socks and Jesus sandals, and then you wouldn't have to worry about the chipped nail-varnish.

Paul always remember that as your toe nails grow please remover the nail varnish, once removed choose another colour to suit what ever flip flop or outfit of your choice that day. There is nothing worse than seeing a man with flip flops on and seeing that his varnish needs redoing, the growth looks terrible on the toe nails with just the varnish on the tips, so very unsightly ! and please try to keep the nails at a good length to see toenails that curl over the toes and 3ich long is in my opinion a disgrace...Hope you get your ingrown toenail sorted very painful my sister had to go to the hospital to have hers looked at on both feet ! please and this for everyone to remember always cut your nails STRIGHT across do not round them at all. that it how they start growing inwards, I always insisted this on my children once they would not let me cut the toes nails any more.. Merry Christmas to you both. Spider,X )
