The large bins for our apartment block (on edge of Girne) were provied by the council. Don't know how they were requested, but half our block has locals living there full time, so maybe they requested them. We were all charged a one off payment on our monthly council bill ( the one water / refuse etc are charged on). Few years ago but think it was about 60 YTL.

If you own a Villa, you have to buy it yourself. The Council provides Large Bins in certain areas for the Neighborhood to use.

Tenants of mine have a wheelie bin marked 'London Borough of Greenwich',

Don't ask how, I haven't the faintest idea!

Okay, so that's one more thing to add to my ever growing shopping list.

Thanks a lot!

Hi, I also brought some with me, mind you, they have been hit and run over so many times but the garbage truck that they don't really resemble bins anymore! If you bring some, make sure they are sturdy with the lid attached - my lids went awol in the first week and the local cats had a great time!

Thanks for the advice guys, where I live crows are the real pest around bins so I know what you mean about lids being attached. Shall sort one out when I come over - much appreciated!

Go to one of the many illegal tips scarring the landscape and grab a large oil drum with the top off. Works a treat and you're helping the environment.

firstly pte, someone stole my oil drum!

the after buying a wheelie bin and owning it for about a year. the dustbin men decided to smash the living daylights out of it! hubby chased them down the road. the excuse was it didn't fit on the dustbin lorry. funny as it was a uk size bin and it is an ex uk lorry. complained to the correct department and was told to buy a new one. muktar said he would get us a free one but still waiting 1 week later. they came this morning to collect rubbish, hubby just threw our black bags at them. looks like we will be back to another oil drum now. don't spend good money on a bin as they have no repect for other peoples property.

I mourned my stolen oil drum. It took me years to find one that was pre-74.

Get one from the south, they are much cheaper, then it's not quite so upsetting when it get's broken/ and beaten up.

I just thank my lucky stars that I do not live in the UK anymore.

Is this just another Ex-pat gripe?

Happy to live in the safe area.
