I have just seen fresh ginger at the Old Bazaar in Girne

last week when there. First time ever for me! Now I don't need

to bring it with me for my Indian/Chinese food

Pretty sure it was - I cant imagine the veg stall selling ground ginger! Sorry only kidding with you. Yes I think I saw it on there but wasnt out looking for it to be honest so I could have mistaken it for some weird and wonderfully shaped vegetable which may have resembled fresh ginger. It's good if you know you can buy it elsewhere though as I know you said before curries arent any good without fresh ginger. I'm cooking with fresh ginger tonight! Teriyaki Salmon on Japanese Noodles - hubby's favourite

BHW

I was only joking about 'fresh' ginger Tom that Rocky mentioned!

Maybe it is getting into shops now, as I definitely saw it for first time

in Old Bazaar (and I brought some with me to make an Indian)

Please double check before you buy because root ginger does look like, I think, Jerusalem Artichoke. Nearly got caught out couple of years ago but the stall holder knew what I was looking for and corrected me.

No, fresh ginger doesn't look much like Jerusalem Artichoke really!

I knows me ginger & me artichokes (enginar) But the artichokes are

excellent & local cuisine makes good use of them. (also v. good for health)

EERRMM not enginar.

Jerusalem Artichokes are a root vegetable which if you can find a good book you will find a picture. Do not think they are even related to Artichokes (enginar).

Not the best photos but was only a quick look on WWW.

They are so similar to ginger that if you put them side by side you would have difficulty choosing.

I know my artichokes and my gingers!!!!! LOL

Thanks for that, really interesting. I guess I know my ginger better

than artichokes! It is all gorgeous anyway.

And why would he want to run faster? Surely not from his

delectable woman? What are you suggesting now PP/

If anyone does find that one of these roots for sale anywhere is ginger would like to know. Have just about exhausted my supply.

Do you know that ginger is great stored in the freezer?

Heard it from one of the proper tv cooks years ago, might even have been the great Ken Hom. You put the whole root in freezer and when you need it you just grate off the amount you need and put rest back in freezer. No joke, try it. Means whe you can get a supply you can keep it indefinitly and is always available.

Alternative storage method - for alcofrolicks...

Peel root and store submerged in a jar of Vodka in the fridge - cut into chunks small enough to fit in jar, obviously! (might not be so obvious if you've already attacked the Vodka...)

Will last for a few weeks.
