The late Serb president was accused by the international community of bypassing UN sanctions during the 1990s by funnelling money through Cyprus. According to the International War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague, more than £1.23 billion was channelled by the former Yugoslav president and his associates through eight offshore companies in Cyprus between 1992 and 2000. Several of the companies had been registered by Papadopoulos’ Nicosia law office, a common practice in Cyprus. The law firm insisted that beyond the registration, it had nothing to do with the companies’ activities. At the time, the firm’s partners maintained that Papadopoulos had nothing to do with the firm’s dealings with offshore companies and had very limited involvement with the firm in general during those years because of his intense engagement in politics. http://www.cyprus-mail.com/cyprus/patten-s-wikileaks-cable-described-tassos-papadopoulos-dubious-character/20101203

My cousins south of the border will not like you guys criticising their favourate hero so lightly. There is no evidence to prove the allegations as he destroyed all the evidence himself personally for the corruption money he received from his friend milo. So if there is any evidence to the contrary it must have been planted by the yanks. He is quite proud of how they have been able to legalise all illegalities south of the border. I am not talking about minor things like changing the constitution or ethnically cleansing people of their land or fraud like selling the same house twice, I am talking about how to kill patients in hospital and how to depose the bodies. TC politicians can learn a hell of a lot from their cousins south of the border.

Dear YFred re msg 2 1/ As you know - if Liealotopoulos was such a 'hero' - why did he lose out - in the first round - when standing for re-election as president? 2/ I think Cypriots - in general - know how to 'interpret' legalities to their own ends...

6Ms He lost because enough of the sheepriots that were fooled first time round realised that he had no intention of negotiating with anybody. What is real shame is the winner did exact same thing. Final opportunity lost. Your second point is way off the mark. It is because the UN is not functioning in the interest of the Nations but instead in the interest of 5 permanent members and their friends. It stinks.
