| Well it is in India! The presence of these chemicals is checked by QC departments in all major UK stores and samples are often collected from containers at the docks by trading standards. These tests are also part of many EN tests for safety which an importer has to obtain in order to sell so many items, not just clothing. |

| It is probably only in the last 30 years that tests for chemical constituents in fabrics and plastics have been carried out. Obviously in third world countries these would still be limited if carried out at all. I would imagine that tourists are still bringing home all sorts of items which would put UK Trading standards officers in intensive care! Some of the things I must have put in my mouth as a child would now be classified as lethal but nobody checked then and I am still alive. Having said that I have had cancer twice and nobody knows what caused that - mmmmmmmm. |
