I went to Starling - the one on the left if you are going down road to Karsiyaka. I wanted some Linguine and some ice cream (plain vanilla stuff) The Linguine was 95 kurus on the shelf and at the till when they rang it up it came up as 1.45. I said, ''Not a chance of me paying that'' and took them to see the price on the shelf. They cancelled the sale and put it through manually at 95 kurus. Then came the ice cream - it was the only one in the fridge with no price ticket but hey, how expensive can one litre of vanilla foreign make ice cream be. Well, when they scanned this it came out at 12.50!!!! You would have been proud of me, my impression of John Cleese was staggering. I called again for the manager - but he stood his ground and said I would have to pay it. I said ''not a chance mate'' and you can keep your linguine as well - I will never use your supermarket again and I will tell all my friends that you are 'stealing' Back to Lemar again.............

Nice one only way to resolve this sort of problem. I always check my receipt not only in the TRNC but in the UK as well ASDA my local supermarket quite often fails to upgrade their computer especially when ther are ther are special offers on. I picked up a book at the airport once called How to Complain and its advice if you have a problem faulty goods, wrong price etc is to become loud (not agressive) and make sure as many people around you are aware that you are receiving bad service, they will do anything to shut you up. Mind you half way through a tirade my wife pulls a carrier bag over her head and heads for the car, and you have to endure the I have never been so imbaressed speach. But I get a great sense of satisfaction when I win, and I used to laugh at Victor Meldrew

I bought some orange juice at Lemar yesterday, 2.95 on the shelf, 3.55 on my receipt. Most of the supermarkets , it seems to me, just don't update their shelf prices for ages.

It is definitely time to fight back. I have really had enough of this 'sharp practice' - Spending most of my shopping money in Hur Deniz now. I have never had the above mentioned problem there! And.............the staff are polite and yes, friendly!!!

I have always checked when items are being rung through the till, even in the UK, I am not saying anyone is overcharging on purpose, mistakes happen, wrong code on the goods, price not updated etc, I am sure though there are people that will take advantage when they can, but that is not only here it happens in the UK and I am sure many other places.

had an e-mail from a friend who told me about a scam in the UK. when you make a purchase at the supermarkets etc using a credit card they ( the assistant ) will ring up a ' cash back ' which you are not aware off. At the end of her shift she is £s better of whilst you are £s worse of. SO CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS And if this happens to you call the manager AND write to the head office.

that's right, a friend stands in the queue behind the victim and the cashier gives the money to her so she has no cash on her if challenged.

My wife normally checks every receipt before leaving the store. One that nearly caught her out was where the previous customer's shopping was only sub-totalled and then that amount was added to our bill when the cashier pressed total! Fortunately, the other customer's items were not things that we had bought so stood out.

Did not know you can get cash back on a credit card in a supermarket . I always sign a receipt when I get cash back on my debit card , so that would be traceable if challenged. ''Strange'' I still cannot work out how this scam can happen, however I will be on my guard .

Pipie totally agree you cannot get cash back on a "credit card" and the tills are checked at intervals during the day. You just cannot ring up cash back and pocket the money, even if a cashier tried to just take the money from the till it would be traced. Yes you have to sign for any cash back and some supermarkets have separate receipts for this. Cashiers can make mistakes but they are traceable in the Cash office/Epos Office which is where I worked in 2 separate supermarkets. If someones till was continuosly short(and each person who operates a till has their own personal number to sign in with which is on the receipt)it would be investigated on a regular basis. In both supermarkets where I worked any till short of £5 would be checked. Incidentally most of the supermarkets operate the same computer package in their cash office. If anyone was stupid enough to think they could dip their fingers in the till and get away with it, is, stupid.

Easy way to have a "pop" at the UK though, and make the TRNC look a tiny bit better! Never mind the truth, think of the "story".

Don't think you (Darlartokat, Yenibob and Pipie) have quite grasped the nature of the scam... the only person who is down is the card holder who didn't get given the cash back.... the till agrees with the till cash and roll. So the supermarket won't be aware of the scam as they are not the loser only the customer is. OK it's a debit card that must be used for the scam not an ordinary credit card but the point is, it does go on. Bob I don't think the purpose was to have a pop at the UK as Carndi didn't really make a issue of this difference, only you did...

yenibob I got similar e-mail as did friends warning me about the scam, and from the writing it didnt look right. The usual' I know someone who had cash back stolen' and also had a daughter /son /relative who worked in a bank so coincidentaly ,could show how it was done. Its a con,on investigation- "Brief Analysis The warning is unsubstantiated. There is no credible evidence to support the claim that such a scam is regularly or commonly taking place in the UK. The UK based message is nothing more than a mutated version of earlier US based warnings that have circulated since 2004. The US versions are also unsubstantiated and unsupported by any credible evidence. Groucho mess16 While conceding it wasnt deliberately done, Yenibob has a point, The thread was about TRNC supermarkets posts ,then imaginary UK rippoff post has moved the thread onto UK supermarkets and away from TRNC ripoffs . Matter of fact out of the 16 posts only 7 do not mention the UK.
