We had a woodburning stove fitted into an existing fireplace by a reputable company. We have been using the fire the last couple of weeks but noticed that the morning after there are sooty deposits from the fire/chimney all around the outside terrace. Very messy as sweeping just smears it and then it needs to be mopped. Any advice or suggestions to remedy this problem would be appreciated. Thanks

What are you burning? ideally for woodburning stove you should be burning wood that has been dried for at least a year, and preferably not resinous wood.

This is slightly 'off subject' - my apologies, but does anyone know of a chimney-sweep? I will be arriving with my family for Christmas/New Year and would prefer not to have Father Christmas descend in a cloud of sticky black stuff. Thank you.

1) the door seals might not be sealing........... even though its new.........2) could be that you are not opening the damper slightly prior to re stocking the fire......... chimney might not be high enough fo it to create a good drawing draught. Here they do not put a bend in chimneys and so it goes straight up. In Uk chimneys have a kink in them makes for a better drawer - (pull up of the smoke). If you have access to the top if its flat great for boiling the kettle and cooking a stew but you nee a trivet....
