Whilst I feel so very sorry for the Uk now experiencing terrible snow, its not all bad for some. 7 people are trapped in a well stocked pub in yorkshire. One of which is the chef. Now those patrons have a real excuse for not getting home. I do however feel for the elderly, vunerable and homeless people. It must be a nightmare. It seems so unreal us enjoying this beautiful warm spell and our loved ones back home freezing x

Lilli, I love snow. I wish I was back there now. I like snow so much that I went on a skiing holiday to the alps once and just sat in a bar drinking and looking at the snow ;-)

Mike like you I also love it easpicially a skiing trip to the dolomites. However to be trapped in it as they are in the UK must be a nightmare. I still remember the very bad one around 1978 when we couldnt get out for 8 days. The UK is just not geared up for it. At leasr the ski resorts you can get chains for your cars. Having said all that I would like to be there well stocked up and hopefully warm inside the house x

as with everything there is positive and negative, but two elderly people died in their garden this week, slipped and died of hyperthermia, one elderly man left lying in the snow for four hours.........it is lovely to look at for a day or two, but then it gets in the way and when it then starts to effect people's lives it is just not good...........

Shrimp that is just so awful, I keep thinking about the homeless, how they will live. Its great for the children but not for everyday life. Im worried for my family and for all the elderly. Retailers will be feeling the pinch if people cant get out to the shops in the run up to xmas. God havent we had some things to deal with this year with the ash cloud etc xxxx Keep safe and keep warm

Thanks Lilli for your good wishes and I wish you a very happy Christmas......it is beginning to thaw a bit now, but that brings with it a new threat, ice.....a gritter lorry skidded down a 15 foot embankment in the early hours just a few miles away from us......luckily he survived but it just goes to show what a dangerous job these guys are doing being the first on the road in this tretcherous weather so that the public can try to go about their daily buisness.......hopefully soon it will all be a ghastly memory!!

Living in London we have not had as much snow but it has been freezing cold and the pavements are just sheets of ice. I have ventured out for the first time in a week today, when you have joint replacements you just can't take any chances. Roll on January when we move to the TRNC. The butlers wife

It's not the snow so much as the ice which is making life so hard for many of us. We have had a long awaited thaw today with brilliant sun and the birds were enjoying my birdbath which had thawed. Still slippery patches though, but we are luckier than some.

All I can say is thank God we have good neighbours. We all pay our council tax but it is obvious that the local council don't give a damn. A JCB cleared the street last night. No not the council. A neighbour who works with a company who rents heavy equipment cleared a track another neighbour supplied the rock salt to defrost the ice. The rest of the neighbours cleared footpaths, and I am totally pathetic I make sure the wild birds are fed. At least after three days my car has been dug out. Hopefully meeting up eventually with my friend Nurseawful tomorrow.

Hi. I read your original post, Liz, but did not realise that it referred to the Red Lion at Blakey, a favourite haunt of ours. It is not the first time it has happened... they make a habit of it in bad conditions. Things have been very severe at home for my daughters on the North Yorkshire Moors. I am glad I am here, but worry about the road conditions when they can actually get the cars out. Our elder daughter's car hasn't moved for a week. The only vehicles that seem to be moving in the village are tractors and 4 wheel drives. I hope it has all melted by the time we go back for Christmas and New Year.

Have heard that the general forecast for most of the UK over the next 4-6 days is - dry, with clear days but freezing nights & sub-zero temps. Its not just us in the UK going through all this but most of central & eastern Europe too.
