No, they are treated in the same way as if you were living in the South of the island.

Not quite the same as the south because there is no double tax agreement in the TRNC. This means that your UK state pension will be labile to UK tax unlike if you took it in the South as it would be liable for tax there, other than that the same.

Nick you rarely have a "Feckin" clue and could talk Horlicks for England. You also tell crap jokes, can't spell and seem very very thick!

Only a personal opinion of course (other opinions are of course available).

Getting back to the subject!!!! yenibob and nick!

Message 7 Nationwide are now charging for overseas withdrawals.

I have my pension transferred to my bank here every month, it just takes an extra three days to clear, the tax is automatically taken in the UK.

It is paid in Lira at the exchange rate of the day it is paid into the bank in the UK.

Halffull,

You are losing a lot of money doing this. Firstly you are only getting the Uk exchange rate into ytl and not the local ytl rate. Secondly if you draw your money out in sterling and then change it to ytl in the TRNC you shouldn't pay any charges.

Re 12 Sugarpuffbear

Thank you so much for the correction and putting the right address up. Spelling and I don’t get on. I do try but sometimes it gets the better of me. I must say your correction was much kinder than some I have seen so thank you again.

I do hope you have found the web site informative.

If you have declared you are living outside the EU then your state pension does not attract the yearly increases that the Govt may award, in other words it is frozen,at the same amount .

Thanks The Butlers Wife, but they would only transfer to the local currency, I know the exchange rate is better locally, but I had no options, if I leave it in a UK bank and transfer it in £ I then pay transfer fees, so its a no win situation and this way I am guaranteed my pension on time every month without having to worry about it.:=)

Dixie, I think if you read the info. on the Government site then you'll find that Turkey and the EU have agreements with the UK and your pension will increase as if you were in the UK.

surely TRNC is not classed as part of the Republic of Turkey - that's a question.

I have learnt a lot from this posting, I told them I was moving here so I did forgo the increases and fuel allowance, then I find others get it but they all told me its because they had a UK address. I didn't pursue it. Now I guess Im lazy or didn't think about reading links only went by what the DWP told me. Now reading these links I can understand now x

TRNC is my ONLY address and the DWP know this and communicate with me at my Alsancak address. They backpaid my winter fuel allowance when they realised they had not paid it for three years and my pension increases annually as does my service pension. They too ( The military) know that I have no UK address and live here permenantly.

I didnt qualify for the heating allowance as i was honest filling in the online form and gave my date of arrival here. Because i was not in the UK for 1 week during the qualifying period i cannot get it. You dont know that until they write and say you cannot get it. I used to get the £10 Christmas bonus but that stopped when i moved permanently here but yesterday a mystery £10 appeared in my bank it just said Bank Credit but no other info. Hey ho better than a debit. The only UK address is my daughters one for my bank card to go to as i still have a UK account. Th pensions dept have my address here too.

Dixie45 Msg 17

You don't have to be in the EU to get your pension increases. You have to be in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the TRNC is specifically included in this area.

My husband and l both have our state pension paid in sterling to our bank account here. We use the iktisat bank and all transfers from the UK are made as domestic transfers through the Turkiye bank in London. The girls in the english department the iktisat bank is Girne are very helpful and will be able to give you any information that you need to do the transaction if you are interested.
