I had the same problem it turned out that one of my toilets valves was not shutting off properly so water was running slowly into the toilet all the time and the pump kept running all the time to top the system up.

Marvin.

Turn off all taps (including WC) and if it stops try each one and see if one is faulty letting water through. As Marvin says the toilet. Then come back for more advice and maybe a plumber.

It can be a number of things.

- if you have the old fashioned 'red balloon' on top of the pump then it could be the pressure switch needs adjusting

- if you have the modern digital system then it might need replacing - my last one failed after only 10 months

- it could be the ballcock on the roof tank - again it is limescale that causes this

- if the 'red balloon' it may be the internal bladder leaking air

- it could be the pressure relief valve on the hot water tank sticking open a bit (again limescale)

- it could be the toilets as previously stated

But I seriously doubt it is a tank unless there is a very obvious leak
