A report yesterday published in the Lancet suggests that taking one Aspirin each day could cut the risk if death from various cancers by as much as half.

Now Doctors in Bristol are urging caution on the Aspirin Cancer claim.

The latest findings in the Lancet showed that taking a daily dose of 75mg of Aspirin for five years or mire could reduce the risk of cancer.

Surely the Lancet should not be publishing statements like this if GP's are urging caution!

Caution is right. Some people are susceptible to stomach bleeds if they take too much/any aspirin. Costs and benefits have to be weighed carefully.

Bill, a little knowledge could leave you in the "Mire"

the Bristol doctors are saying to consult with GP before taking asprin long term, that's all. Doesn't change the results of the research findings published in the Lancet.

Bill the bit you've missed is take the aspirin with milk I presume the milk is to protect the stomach lining

The lancet is also the journal that published the widely discredited (by actual scientists, if not certain celebrities) study by a doctor who subsequently lost his license for gross malpractice which claimed vaccines cause autism. So just because it's in an academic journal doesn't mean it's true.

I suppose one could hedge their bets until the medical experts agree, if ever, on the value of aspirin, ie half an aspirin a day with milk (semi skimmed of course). In that way one might reach a very good age with only half a heart attack and still with half a stomach not bled out. In the year 2,000 my PA repeatedly advised me to move to "Intheory" not TRNC. Had I found the place medical dilemmas would not occur, in theory
