Has anyone else had problems with their allowance?

I check weighed my bags before we left,twice, one was 1kg under, one was 2kg over. I also had a parcel 3kg.

When they were weighed by the Pegasus scales at Stanstead, we were charged for 9kgs extra!!!

I have a sneaky feeling that perhaps their scales are out. I'll be interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar problem.

Unlikely to be the scales being inaccurate,they have to have them calibrated on a regular basis. If in doubt,ask them to show you the last calibration certificate. I should know,I used to work for the company that installed them and services them !!



BAA are red hot on calibrations and back up paperwork.

I will never understand how baggage weight works ....I weigh 10 stone ...some fat bas**d next to me has the same baggage allowance ............not fair .......

When I left my company,the airports and airlines were indeed debating overall weight as opposed to just baggage weight.....

apc, what I found even more unfair was stupid me hadn't realised my new perfume was in my handbag.

Because it wasn't in a plastic bag, they took it from me. I understand rules for our safety, and agree wholeheartedly that our safety is of utmost importance. But how does a plastic bag make my perfume safer than if it's just sitting in my handbag?

The next time I travel to the TRNC in January I know my luggage is going to be overweight does anybody know how much Pegasus charge per kilo and if you have to let them know in advance? I usually book on line.

the best thing to do is phone in advance and tell them you have excess baggage , most airlines will charge you less than at the airport ...done this twice ...

my partner is on way back now,phoned me from airport to say he had been charged £160, he knew he was overweight by a couple of kg, but they said 20kg

he said check in was very slow due to everyone being over weight

We always weigh our luggage prior to Stanstead. We travelled last Thurs, and I think the scales where out. I have some electronic ones that are fairly accurate.



I expexted £100 over, but it was another 4 kg so a further £32

Joan - Keith in Msg 2 is correct about the accuracy even humidity can affect the weight of baggage and what the scales can show. Remember that quite often other airlines are working the same check in desks at a different time; they are not going to alter them between one and the next.

With regard to youur palstic bag I think they meant a sealed bag showing bought after duty free - so the bottle could not have been tampered with. I am sorry you lost the perfume but I'm sure after years in the florist trade you are naturaly as fragant as a rose without it so did not need it anyway.

Me too! Weighed the luggage the night before and was assured by family that I was O.K. Got to airport and 1kg over. Charge £8 per kilo. But nice lady told me if I took out a pair of shoes and put in my hand luggage all would be well.



As the shoes were at the bottom, I took out the toilet bag, and then realised I had a load of extra liquids. Silly me. So, off to get plastic bags. What a rip off. machine selling four bags in a plastic ball for £1. Good game that, but not for me.



So if anyone wants a plastic bag, I have 3 spare.



Pegasus girl merely doing her job and pleasant with it,but seemed to have every person on overload! But supposing I lost 2kg during my time away, why shouldn't I put that in the luggage, and can it be any safer in terms of plane weight whether it is on my body or in the hold, and why should paying £8 a kilo mean the plane was still within limits. Hmmmmmmm

Ah thanks Tom, haha, the man who took my perfume was very apologetic. He actually advised me to go and

buy a plastic bag, then I could take it through. The problem was, the queue was so long, it would 've taken another half hour to get back through. It wasn't worth risking being late for my flight.

The moral of the story is....always carry a plastic bag in your hand luggage, just in case.

Oh, and I've just remembered seeing a security guy take a plastic gun off a little boy, he was about 6 years old.

Surely this is a bit OTT. It had gone through the xray machine, so I can't see the point in this either. Poor little chap. :(

With regard to the toy gun - yes horrible for the child but from the surity point of view they probably thought if it got into the hands of a stupid adult other travellers could be scard witless at least. You will remember the not so recent tragedy of a death where a guy was carrying a peice of wood and the UK police assumed it was a weapon (I can't remember more details)

tom your right about the toy gun,i have leant my lession with that one, i laugh now but not at the time,

i was going to jordan for xmas via isreal,with a present for my son, not a gun but looked like one in the scanner, going tho the border into jordan they picked it up, guns raised,people in my party started screeming and all eyes on me, not nice.



also regarding pegasus watch your hand luggage size, as yesterday everybodys was being checked .

I have found that Pegasus seem to have "purges" on baggage allowance limits from time to time. A couple of years ago, we were a couple of kilos overweight on one case. We were told we'd have to pay excess baggage and when we went to do so, there was a long queue of people from our flight doing the same thing.



Been extra careful since then!
