One of convicted US fraudster Bernard Madoff's sons has committed suicide in his New York apartment, a family lawyer has said.

Mark Madoff, 46, was found hanged in Manhattan on the second anniversary of his father's arrest.

Mark Madoff and his brother Andrew were both being investigated in the case but had not been charged.

Bernard Madoff admitted last year defrauding thousands of investors through a $65bn (£41bn) Ponzi scheme.

The scheme pays out using new investors' money rather than from any profits.

Bernard Madoff, 72, is serving a 150-year prison term.



In other news



One person has been killed and two others hurt by two blasts in the centre of the Swedish capital, Stockholm, amid reports of a bomb attack. A car blew up near the busy shopping street of Drottninggatan and another blast followed nearby minutes later. Swedish press reported that the second blast was a suicide bomber, but police said no cause had yet been determined.

I say gone mad because the conspiracy theorists will conclude that... Madoff's son was 'topped' by disgruntled investors... and Julian Assange is behind the bombing....
